We sent a LOT of cards when we were dating, and I've saved those. I've also saved special cards from Tim since then and special ones from my parents and children. I often sending people two cards for one occasion, like a serious one and a funny one or two really appropriate ones, because I can't make up my mind. I buy ones that I know will be appropriate and put them aside, because I learned that they're either never there when I need them and go back or I can't remember where I saw them. I just love cards too!

I save all of my husband's and daughter's cards to me. From others, it depends on the occasion (congrats on DD's birth, wedding cards are all saved). For recurring occasions like Birthdays and Christmas, I keep the really meaningful ones (MIL has a way with words on hers) or laugh-out-loud funny ones in good taste (my Mom manages to find quite a few like that).
I have a very few cards that I've saved over the years. From weddings and such. Not so long ago, I was cleaning off the bookshelves in the bedroom and found a stash of greeting cards in DH's shelves. All of them from me. If that won't bring a tear to your eye.
Other greeting cards get tossed in a box and when I get the urge, I make tiny, little boxes out of them. Although, I haven't done that in a few years, so I'm not sure I remember how to do it anymore.
I too love cards. I recently tossed a bunch, and now regret it. DD and I used to make little boxes out of them. But we have misplaced the pattern. I am on a mission to find that pattern, so when I do I'll try to post it for you. The boxes are really cute.
Enjoy your birthday cards! and the special thoughts and prayers behind them!
DH and I have saved cards from each other for extra-special occasions - milestone anniversaries and birthdays; most of the others we keep for a while and then eliminate. We keep all the kids' cards to us - they're especially cute from when they started practicing their letters and writing messages to us.
Another thing DH has kept for these 21 years are those little Hallmark datebooks into which he has entered everything from where we ate dinner on a particular evening to a running history of big events we've celebrated over the years. Kind of like Lori's DH keeping cards from her - brings a little tear to the eye to know that he still has them.
