Grandma update...

I must have startled the nurse I talked to when I used some technical terms on the phone. Really, I just wanted them to know that I'm not kidding around here. Nothing funny about watching someone who can't sit still for the pain. I just keep thinking about a woman that I cared for who was very near the end and my nurse for the shift wouldn't give her the amount of medication she needed because she was afraid it might kill her. The poor woman was just crawling around her bed and her room out of her mind with pain. Just stupid. People develop a tolerance to pain meds (typically referred to as addiction but not in this situation) and they have to be 'titrated' to match their pain level. I wish there wasn't such a nursing shortage and really well-trained nurses could staff nursing homes. Elder care is becoming a huge industry in this country. Rising health care costs...it's all crazy.
All I can say right now is poor Grandma. I wish I could give her a hug.
On the bright side, Mom said she was sitting up last night and watching her much beloved game shows. She's just crazy for Jeopardy and Wheel. She's not eating or drinking much, but that's to be expected. She has her good days and bad and that's also to be expected. So long as it's as painless as possible, I can handle it.

I'm so glad that your words were "heard" and that Grandma has been given the relief that she is entitled to. I continue to keep Grandma and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Thanks for the update Lori! I have been thinking about your situation. Glad to hear that you got good results from you phone call. You proved again that the squeaky wheel gets the oil. I am sure you amd your mom are relieved that G'ma is more comfortable.
Power to the people!!
