be decorating (i. e. more lights and lighted figures outside) this year than they usually do? Around here, people are putting up decorations earlier and seem to be going all out. I don't know if they're feeling more optimistic and in the Christmas spirit or what, but it's neat to see all the interest and effort. I got some new lights for along the roof and 2 new 6' each tree "sculptures" that have 600 multi-colored lights each on them to put out in the yard after seeing them as I was riding down the street and admiring them. There are SO many white deer this year that I'm glad I sold

Decorations are going up slowly in my neighborhood, but more homes are involved than in previous years. I think it must have to do with younger families and lots of kids moving in over the last few years. The people next door to us (with the two Golden Retrievers) have one of those inflatable thingies on the front lawn, but it's a mama Golden and her puppy wearing Santa hats and scarves. Really cute - I've never seen them before, unlike the snowmen, the teddy bears, the Santas, and the nutcrackers you see everywhere. The only problem is that they either have sprung a slow leak, or the cold causes them to deflate overnight, so every morning they have to be reinflated.

We still have two more strings of lights that we might put up on the shrubs out front; and I'll hang pine-bough garlands from the stair railings and twist some lights through them. Hopefully not in the middle of a blizzard. This year is the most we've decorated outdoors. We're white-lights people, but I'd love to get one of the (multi-color) illuminated trains that have the chaser lights just in the wheels and put that on the lawn; Costco has them - at least had them last week....

I am happy to report there are a lot of decor and lights up here!

DH had thought the same thing. I thought it was about the same. But of course you come to our house where everything is half done inside and out. I was hoping for something more simplified this year with white lights but DH is hesitant to change his routine! Still have turkey decor up and lying around and boxes with the remains of DH's endeavors with Christmas lights sitting in the middle of the living room. I hope to be changing that situation while I'm off over the next few days.

Lots of decorations are up around here and a lot of them were up before Thanksgiving. I am one of the grinches...we only have a lighted wreath and those white branches lit at the front door. DH is not one for decorating either. We also don't put much out because we won't be home for Christmas and I have to worry about timers and such.

Yes...there seems to be more "stuff" this year...especially those blow up decorations. Unfortunately, the wind is doing a number on them.

I will send you down some snow for your outside decor!

I learned something about those inflatables today. Apparently they are meant to inflate and deflate. Perhaps they're on a timer that starts up and stops an air source at preset times. That's probably what saves them from being wind-blown and beaten up. And here I thought my neighbors had to go out in the cold at dawn every morning to do another chore.

You learn something new every day....
