We did have an earthquake!!But I missed it!!I was on the road heading home and never felt anything. As usual I had no idea what was going on on and Mom calls and says"Did it scare your chickens?".No hello, no explanation just that. Then she exlpained the question to me.I need to go down and check on my babies! They said it was a 4.5 quake.Cool! So far in the past 2 months we've had 80 degree weather, heavy rain, unexpected snow, below normal temps and now an earthquake. Can the locust be far behind???

I was just thinking, I hope you're not at Armaggedon Central!! Glad to hear you guys are OK up there. Hadn't heard about it and haven't heard anything from my relatives. Where was it centered?

My DD and I were stretched out on my bed watching Dr. Phil and at first we thought the dog was leaning against the bed scratching, since the bed was shaking. But I looked up and the light kit on the ceiling fan was rocking and the mirror on my dresser was rocking. DD kept saying, "what's going on, what's going on?". Youngest DS, who is 7, was on the computer and called out (just as calm as could be), "hey Mom! Feels like we're having an earthquake". As if he's ever felt one before. I slept thru a few while living in Turkey and made it thru a pretty rough one while we were at school there (in an old tobacco warehouse) where the guys pushed us girls down to get under the desks before we could and the building was actually swaying. That was pretty scary. Today's was just a little jiggle. DD and DS thought it was cool. Oldest DS was in the basement and never felt anything.

And that's the way it was.

I haven't seen anything about it on the news. Where was the center?

Didn't hear about it - interesting, though. There is a fault line running somewhere around here (in SC), and we carry earthquake insurance on our homeowner's policy. I wonder if it's the same fault system? Back in the 1880s there was a significant earthquake in Charleston SC. What buildings survived were shorn up with rods running the width of them, and secured with "earthquake washers" on the exterior. The washers are quite decorative - until I heard what they were, I thought they were a local architectural touch. Supposedly we had a minor earthquake a few years ago, though I slept right through it. In the Azores, prone to earthquakes since the islands are practically on the North Atlantic Ridge, I remember a few shudders - very weird, it was like everything in the apartment turned to jelly for an instant.

Wow, it's weird when that happens isn't it?

We have a minor fault line running through Nebraska and from time to time we get a good shake. Nothing on a scale like happens in California or Mexico, but it's kinda weird to be out in the middle of nowhere and get an earthquake.

Patty, you better watch out for the pestilence to be followed by famine....

Thanks! I saw a little blurb about it in the paper this morning finally. Sure thought it would have gotten more coverage than that. I'm glad no one was hurt.

The heck with the frogs...

Watch out for the boils and the killing of the first born!

If the melt water from the snow turns red you might want to consider moving...

And if you see a guy in a funny-looking hat ask him to "Let my people go!"

Yikes!
