Ok--a party we're going to said to bring a white elephant gift.

You could bring a Mr. Wonderful. He's hot right now. I'll have to give it more thought to come up with something better.

My very favorite lighted house is the guy who puts a roof size arrow in lights on his house pointing the way to look at the house next to him where the people go all out. Cracks me up every time I see it.

When I think of a White Elephant gift exchange, I think of something I have, still in the box, that I don't want, like that heart-shaped platter we received for our wedding (to syrupy for us)... or something seasonal that would be nice, but not necessary (hot chocolate gift pack). If you want a gag, get a Claxton fruitcake - I think it was either Johnny Carson or Jay Leno who said there's only one fruitcake in the world and it's making it's rounds.

I remember a gag gift at an office party, but it was a guy thing (figuratively and literally) and *very* crude. One of those things where you laugh because you can't believe it. What was rather amusing about it is that it resurfaced every Christmas, and was nicknamed "The Yule Log". I'm NOT recommending that, though!

Deb - There's a town north of Boston where one of the neighborhoods goes whole hog for Christmas. Each successive house has a more vivid Christmas display than the one before it. And we're not talking 1- and 2-acre house lots; most are 1/4 - 1/2 an acre, so everything's at curbside and right to the side lot boundaries. The light hurts your eyes as you drive or walk by. We don't have a digital camera yet - darn it, otherwise I'd be up there this weekend snapping away and e-mailing to you.

I love the contest idea; good luck.

Deb,

I bet you were joking but I love the idea of cutting and pasting until you create the best light display ever.
