for the birthday wishes. I had a lovely day for my 33rd birthday ....

Rhonda - Your post brought back a lot of happy memories. When I was very little, I thought all the commotion at the holiday was about me. And my relatives played along until I learned the real reason in Catechism class. My house was chaos for two days. Christmas Eve was birthday party day - in the middle of the afternoon, with 9 cousins (eventually 13) and a bunch of my friends and all the aunts, uncles, and friends' parents gathered in our kitchen and family room for cake, ice cream (ALWAYS ice cream), other goodies, and gift-opening craziness. Not to mention several visits from Santa himself (finally figured out it was my uncle/godfather). Then the friends would leave, and my mother and her 4 sisters and all the kids would go upstairs to my grandmother's and grandfather's apartment (we lived in a 3-decker owned by my grandparents) to get dinner preparations wrapped up, the big dining room table and the kid's table in the kitchen set, and all ready for the second wave and a ton of good eating, laughs, and pictures and home movies. After the feast was over, we all sang Christmas carols, secular and religious. Sometimes we'd head out en masse for church, which was a short walk away.

Lots of great memories.
