Over the holidays, I realized that any evening I didn't drink alcohol I actually felt deprived. This scared me -- there's a history of alcoholism in my family, and I really don't want to go there. As a result, say hello to the Club Soda Queen of Northern California. I decided that alcohol would be limited to special treat status, for special occasions (this is a tough one for a football fanatic like myself, but I decided that the Super Bowl does NOT count as one of the special occasions).

I know club soda has sodium, but it has less than most diet sodas, and it's a lot healthier and cheaper than either soda or alcohol (plus, some of my co-workers steal other peoples' sodas from the refrigerator, but they won't touch my club soda!). Also, it's one way to get my water (for reasons I've never figured, carbonated water satisfies my thirst much better than plain).

I guess I just have a bubbly personality!

Great job recognizing the "issue". IMHO, I would definitely stick with the bubbly water if it keeps you from wanting the alcohol. Try to find a low sodium brand...there's a zillion brands out there, aren't there? Maybe a lightly flavored one? Maybe squeeze some lemon or lime into it to shake it up a bit? Whenever I order water out now, I have to laugh because when we were in Germany over Spring Break, if you ordered bottled water they would ask "with gas or without gas". We got into the habit of saying "water with gas" or "water without gas". Too funny :)

Congrats. Great job! Still with your new brand of bubbly!
