I had a fantastic workout.Mentally as well as physically.I bundled up and took off for a walk thru the fields.Had some really good hills.Saw deer and listened to the water rushing over the rocks at the creek. It was really great.Came in and warmed up with a mug of peppermint tea.
Me? Creative with food? Thanks - that's a real compliment to someone who follows the "keep it simple, stupid" cooking method and didn't really enjoy it until All-Clad cookware entered her life.
Don't forget Rhonda and Shar in the creative cooks list. No offense to anyone else, but I'd have no trouble popping in for dinner at any of their homes.....
Thanks for the plug. Unfortunately, most of the time I'm more motivated to be creative with things that include sugar and chocolate. Baking is my favorite type of cooking.
You have had such great discipline. We were discussing it in the chat last night (in case your ears were burning...). I wish I could get back to where I was last April to July. Again, I think the time of year is a major factor for me. I did have homemade vegetable beef soup for lunch today in an effort to stay away from bread.
Keep up your terrific work!
Rhonda

No, no burning ears (they were occupied by Laura Ingraham and Susan Estrich), but thanks for that compliment, too. When I get home from work, I'd like to be lazy and eat rib-eye steak and Lindt truffles for dinner, but I'm trying to keep focused because I want to get my BP down and maintain it once and for all without a pill. I'm really almost indignant about being on meds to keep it regulated - not that it's necessarily all my fault, high BP is rampant in my family - but, even with how common it's become among younger people and even kids, I still feel like it's an elderly condition, and I ain't elderly yet!
I don't want to become a frail, weak, and sickly old lady. I want to maintain a certain level of vigor and enjoy myself to the end, and pass on quietly, and preferably in my sleep - just kind of wear out instead of suffering some long-term medical indignity that saddens and bankrupts my family that I might have been able to prevent by altering my eating and fitness habits.
So if eating well, exercising, and looking both ways before I cross the street to avoid getting run over by that bus gets me to a physically and mentally alert old age, I guess now's the time to do it.
Plus, I'd better keep moving if I want to impress the heck out of you all in October....
That's awfully nice of you Donna!! And you're more than welcome any old time!! I think that simple is often better! Nothing beats letting the real flavour of food come through.
Got off to a late start this morning, so didn't get a "scheduled" workout in. Hit the grocery store, picked up #2 son from kindergarten, put the groceries away, feed everyone lunch and then decided to take advantage of the glorious day.
We headed off to the park that's about a mile from our house. I got a chance to sit and knit and enjoy my boys while they amused themselves on the playground equipment. Was also soaking in the cloudless blue sky and just the beauty of all the lush greeness. The breeze was a bit cool, but the sun was very warm and we took our jackets off and just walked home in our sweatshirts. When we got home we had a rousing game of hide and seek in the yard. It's been a long time since I've run that much, but it was so much fun listening to the boys scream with glee when I'd pop out and surprise them!!! LOL Wasn't quite ready to come in, so I grabbed my skipping rope and put in about 15 minutes worth. Of course it wasn't always fluid. The last time I tried skipping was about 7 years ago when I still smoked. I couldn't do more than about 2 or 3 minutes at a time.
Spring feels so darn close here, but I was reminded we haven't even hit mid-winter yet, when I spied a little pile of snow left in a neighbour's driveway from a couple of weeks ago.
Eating has been good. In fact, I don't think I've eaten enough today. I didn't manage breakfast this morning, but grabbed a string cheese when I came home. Lunch was a big bowl of pea soup, a small wedge of blue cheese and a handful of almonds. Dinner will be fresh cod, prawns, cauliflower with cheese and a large green salad. Dessert is cherry ricotta. Water has been so, so. I could definitely use a bit more. All that skipping made me thirsty. Looking forward to a fat-free, sugar-free fudgsicle tonight.
