Hello - What is your favorite workout shoe? I have noticed since I am now more 'mature' my feet seem to need more cushioning. My workouts consist mainly of the Firm workout videos, which is step, hi/lo aerobics. All input is appreciated!! Thanks for your time.

I have several kinds I like. My very favorite are by Mizuno. I got fitted by a specialist in a running store, and they work very well for someone who over pronates and needs lots of arch support. I have some by Brooks that are good, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much support and comfort I get from a pair of Skechers for walking or aerobic type activities! For years I bought Rykas and was pretty happy with them. For walking I like to use my ergonomically weighted walking shoes by Nikken. They give me almost twice the workout in the same time as wearing normal shoes and work the muscles in my legs and glutes more. They're pricey, but worth it. Hope this hasn't been too confusing.

AS an aerobic instructor who learned the hard way, it is important to get the right kind of shoe. Some people believe in cross trainers, which are better than running shoes for the activities you describe, but a "studio shoe" or an aerobic shoe is better. A running/walking shoe makes your foot roll through heel to toe. An aerobic shoe is toe heel which is how you land when you do step or Hi/lo. If you get a cross trainer, make sure you tell them you want them to do step/ hi/lo and body sculpting. Go to a specialty store like Ladies Foot Locker. They may be expensive, but your feet are worth the investment.

Reeboks make studio shoes but they break down too quickly. RYKA is made for woman and I use them the most. I get them mail order because no one carries my size and I get an instructor discount. Sometimes you can find Nike and Avia. Just look for group exercise shoes, studio shoes, gym shoes, aerobic shoes.

I hope that helps.
