Last weekend I thought when we went out to eat I'd order something healthy that I wasn't really excited about and see what happened.

I think it's better to order what you like and eat some of it, all of it, whatever. You have to find a plan that works for you.How long will you stick to any plan if you continously deny yourself? On the other hand you do have to make responsible choices. This is where I struggle.Always fighting that "can't have your cake and eat it too" rule.My reality is that if I want to be a certain weight, size, whatever I have to be willing to put the work in.That means moving my butt at times when it would rather nap and pushing aside the cookies to have an apple.Sometimes, not all the time.Moderation in all things, unless George is involved......

I'd rather eat a portion of what I really like and bag the rest. Why eat all of something that's not tasty, not enjoy it, and then eat some or all of what you wanted in the first place, which is a bad habit we've all indulged in at one time or another? That's where the bad feelings about food and your body image start.

Enjoy!

Just my opinion, but...

I think it's better to order something you like and eat less than to order something you don't like just because it's healthier. I have tried that too and in the end, I wind up eating more if I order on the basis of healthiness vs tastiness. Being healthy and having healthy habits doesn't have to be a chore or something you don't want to do or not like. That makes it harder to make them habits.

Moderation, moderation, moderation...sounds good, but does it really work? Not for me! If you are able to only eat a portion, I'd say order whatever you like. If you're like me and order what you like and then eat the entire thing, plus bread and dessert...

Personally, I would rather have bread and dessert and skip the entree!

We're going to a really yummy restaurant Saturday night with friends and I am already anticipating having appetizer, bread, main meal, dessert and probably a glass of wine thrown in somewhere along the way. Will I regret it afterwards...absolutely! Will I enjoy it while I'm scarfing it down...absolutely! I will be working out hard tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday to "justify" eating what I want Saturday night. I wish I could say, "hey...it works for me" but really it doesn't.

Hope this was helpful. NOT!

Sassy<-who REALLY, REALLY, REALLY has major food issues.

I'd rather eat part of something that I really like than a whole plate of something that's supposed to be good for me but I don't like.

I like most low fat foods too, so it usually isn't a problem. Most places make it pretty tasty. I also ask them to modify things on the menu if possible. Sauce on the side is a great help. But, I would still get something I like within reason (like avoiding fettucine alfredo) and eat half of it. I always order a salad and then I feel pretty full by the time the entree comes. It is good to have the leftovers to take home.

Don't you find you are disappointed later if you don't get something you really like? Then you eat the wrong things when you get home because you are not satisfied. If you go out a lot, it might be easier to be "good". But, if you go out seldomly like I do, go for the something good and eat 1/2 of it.
