To count or not to count...

I was wondering how everybody here handles caloric intake. I posted below under the January 04 challenge and talked about my desire to stop counting calories. Does anybody here count? I personally am tired of it but afraid to stop.
Thanks,

I'm glad you are here and that Jeepster turned you on to us. Being fit over 40 is about being fit and healthy whether we're trying to lose weight, gain weight, maintain a healthy balance of food and exercise.
Looking forward to getting to know you and Jeepster.

Thank you for the kind and fast replies. I am in counseling right now with a Christian counselor and I also have a nutritionist. Things have actually gotten a lot better and I go a few days without counting and then I start up again. About a year ago I was counting not just calories, but also grams of fat and grams of carbohydrates I consumed to get the exact percentages. I am alos more accepting of my body than I was before. I went through major health problems last year which led to a hysterectomy in July and through it I have learned to at least appreciate my body for what it does for me every day a little bit. What's happening, I think, is that the healthy part of me is getting stronger and resisting the whole calorie counting and nitpicking, but there is still a part of me that's hanging on. So I figured I might be able to get some support here rather than do it all on my own. I know God can do it for me, but I have to let him, that's the real issue.
Thanks again and I look forward to getting to know you and everybody here better as well.

Sounds like you are on the right track and right on the edge of letting go completely. Keeping ya in my prayers.

I recognize you from the SBD board. Not an obsessive calorie counter - tried WW and had little success with it, switched to SBD and am going to see it through to my goal (better than 1/2 way there). I'm assuming that someday I will get off this wide, wide plateau I've been stuck on and start moving downward on the scale. Meantime, I think I manage to eat a balanced diet (carbs from the better sources, lean protein, and enough fat to satisfy my need for food with a good texture or mouth-feel). More importantly, I am working out more intensively recently than I had been - always working on consistency with that.
Hope to see you here a lot!
