I'm so ticked at the half-time display I just sent this to NFL, Inc. Probably won't move them to do anything different, but it's my stand and I'm stickin' to it.

=========================================================================================

Although the incident during the Super Bowl half-time show didn't phase me as much as it seems to have so many of the viewers, the continuing deterioration in the qualty and content of the half-time program does disappoint and disgust me. I've never considered myself a prude, but I guess my reaction to this one puts me in the category of "fogie". As a proud fogie, I'm sure my opinion would be totally discounted and ridiculed at MTV. No doubt the "artists" who performed would consider me out of touch and a dinosaur. Thus, I present my opinion to you.

NFL, Inc. cannot pass the buck on this one and blame MTV for the production. You bought their product and you approved it, and you should be embarrassed by what resulted. There was no attempt to present "talent" in that program. Lip-synching, gyrating, and crotch-grabbing doesn't take talent - it only takes a lack of artistic ability, class and civility. It's a display I prefer not to watch; thankfully, I had chores to attend to and, after viewing the first minute or two of the show, I decided to do them during the break so I could enjoy the rest of what was an outstanding football game, perhaps the best ever. Too bad it was tainted by the mess you allowed on the field at half-time.

The best things about the whole "non-football" part of the game were the performances by Beyonce and Josh Groban. I strongly suggest that you consider having Mr. Groban be your National Anthem singer next year, and in some way work his wonderful talent into the half-time show. You know, give the 40-and-older segment of your audience (and we're out there, believe me, and some of us are female) something to look forward to and enjoy.

You have a faithful football viewer and follower here. If I continue to watch football, both the NFL and I will be happy campers. If prefer not to have to endure a half-time program again that was so completely awful and so disrespectful of a significant part of your audience, of the hard behind-the-scenes work that goes into a successful football game, and finally the players and their coaches and ownership. They should be the stars, not a bunch of minimal talents whose can only "reach" the audience through crassness and shlock.

You wrote much better than I did.

Right on, Donna and Deb! Well put. I also got an email from somewho with the information that the last line of that song is "I'm gonna' have you naked by the end of this song!" Coincidence? I think not.

I saw a picture of them afteward, and he didn't look shocked. They both have that sort of grimace or scowl that she and Michael have made so popular.

Also, mtv.com posted a blurb a few days before the Super Bowl about Janet and Justin's duet and the choreography and stated that there would be a "shocking moment" in it.

I wasn't pleased with Kid Rock using an American Flag as a poncho either. Wouldn't have bothered me if he had wrapped it around his shoulders, but to cut a hole in the center and stick your head thru it...just not respectful of our flag.

What did you all think of the tribute to the Columbia? I thought it was hokey and they could have/should have done a much better job.

If I was Ms. Jackson, I would have been mortified to have my 38 yo breast flapping in the wind like hers was. And I mean flapping. There was nothing sexy about it.

I was kind of disappointed with the ads this year, too.

I'm getting old (or I need more chocolate cake).

Sassy

Jumping on the band wagon here, I think your email was right on. Actually if you could post the address I would not mind adding my 2 cents worth. I found last years half time show horrible with Brittney and Aerosmith. This year was worse. Who are they trying to impress and why? I am not as good with the words but if someone starts a petition through the internet aimed towards the NFL and MTV I would sign in a heart beat and send it out to many.

No, you're not getting old, and you don't need cake any more than I do. What we need is a reintroduction in this country to good taste - the kind that has nothing to do with food. But anyone who insists that a certain standard of behavior be taught and maintained is nothing but an old harpy.

OK - Old, I'm getting there. Harpy - No way. Just aware, like all of us here, of a level of decency that used to exist and wasn't ridiculed.

Most of the tributes on these things end up being hokey; the attempts at impressionistic art to represent "something" are amateurish, at best. For all the pageantry at the opening ceremonies of the Olympics, sometimes I find myself shaking my head.

I was too involved with Josh Groban's singing to pay attention to the rest of the tribute. The 9/11 tributes were exceptional - nothing more was needed than the flag and representatives of public safety officers - but that was an exceptional event in our history. Up here, we were all impressed and touched by that tribute like everyone else was, but there was an added dimension: one of our players has 2 brothers who are NYC firemen and both were at the scene of the towers. We were reminded not only of what these people do for us everyday, but also of the personal story of how one player was reminded of how close he could have come to being the last remaining son.

You have to go to the frequently asked questions part of the NFLInc. help page. You send your post on a form. Hope you get to it.

I hope more people who are sick of it let them know it. Men AND women. We all know football isn't all apple pie and motherhood - but it doesn't need to dirtied any more than some of the players have managed to dirty it. Not when the league execs themselves have an opportunity to pull in the reins. I really feel for parents who try to make that event a family day with their kids and end up having to hold a discussion on standards of class, treatment of women, whatever.

Gee. The Grammys are next week. Can't wait to catch that...
