Although the incident during the Super Bowl half-time show didn't phase me as much as it seems to have so many of the viewers, the continuing deterioration in the qualty and content of the half-time program does disappoint and disgust me. I've never considered myself a prude, but I guess my reaction to this one puts me in the category of "fogie". As a proud fogie, I'm sure my opinion would be totally discounted and ridiculed at MTV. No doubt the "artists" who performed would consider me out of touch and a dinosaur. Thus, I present my opinion to you.
NFL, Inc. cannot pass the buck on this one and blame MTV for the production. You bought their product and you approved it, and you should be embarrassed by what resulted. There was no attempt to present "talent" in that program. Lip-synching, gyrating, and crotch-grabbing doesn't take talent - it only takes a lack of artistic ability, class and civility. It's a display I prefer not to watch; thankfully, I had chores to attend to and, after viewing the first minute or two of the show, I decided to do them during the break so I could enjoy the rest of what was an outstanding football game, perhaps the best ever. Too bad it was tainted by the mess you allowed on the field at half-time.
The best things about the whole "non-football" part of the game were the performances by Beyonce and Josh Groban. I strongly suggest that you consider having Mr. Groban be your National Anthem singer next year, and in some way work his wonderful talent into the half-time show. You know, give the 40-and-older segment of your audience (and we're out there, believe me, and some of us are female) something to look forward to and enjoy.
You have a faithful football viewer and follower here. If I continue to watch football, both the NFL and I will be happy campers. If prefer not to have to endure a half-time program again that was so completely awful and so disrespectful of a significant part of your audience, of the hard behind-the-scenes work that goes into a successful football game, and finally the players and their coaches and ownership. They should be the stars, not a bunch of minimal talents whose can only "reach" the audience through crassness and shlock.

NEW YORK (Feb. 2) - The chief federal regulator of broadcasting was outraged by the Super Bowl halftime show in which singer Justin Timberlake tore off part of Janet Jackson's costume, exposing her breast.
Timberlake blamed a ''wardrobe malfunction,'' but Federal Communications Commission chief Michael Powell on Monday called it ''a classless, crass and deplorable stunt.''
MTV, which produced the show, and CBS, which broadcast it, both said they had no idea the halftime show Sunday night would include such a display.
''CBS deeply regrets the incident,'' spokeswoman LeslieAnne Wade said.
The two singers were performing a flirtatious duet to end the halftime show, with Timberlake singing, ''Rock Your Body,'' and the lines he sang at the moment of truth were: ''I'm gonna have you naked by the end of this song.''
With that, Timberlake reached across Jackson's leather gladiator outfit and pulled off the covering to her right breast, which was partially obscured by a sun-shaped, metal nipple decoration.
The network quickly cut away, and did not mention the exposure on the air.
''I am outraged at what I saw during the halftime show of the Super Bowl,'' FCC Chairman Michael Powell said in a statement. ''Like millions of Americans, my family and I gathered around the television for a celebration. Instead, that celebration was tainted by a classless, crass and deplorable stunt. Our nation's children, parents and citizens deserve better.''
He instructed the commission to open an immediate investigation, promising it would be ''thorough and swift.'' Earlier, FCC spokeswoman Suzanne Tetreault said it was launching a routine investigation because it had received complaints.
Messages left with Jackson's record company and her personal publicist were not returned Monday morning.
The halftime show didn't cause a stir at the White House because President Bush fell asleep.
''I don't want to admit it, but because this White House starts early, I missed it - again,'' he told reporters Monday after a Cabinet meeting. ''Saw the first half, did not see the halftime - I was preparing for the day and fell asleep.''
MTV, CBS' corporate cousin in Viacom, issued a contrite statement in which it also apologized, saying the display was ''unrehearsed, unplanned, completely unintentional and was inconsistent with assurances we had about the content of the performance.''
Timberlake said he did not intend to expose Jackson's breast.
''I am sorry that anyone was offended by the wardrobe malfunction during the halftime performance of the Super Bowl,'' Timberlake said in a statement. ''It was not intentional and is regrettable.''
Wade said CBS officials attended rehearsals of the show all week, and ''there was no indication any such thing would happen. The moment did not conform to CBS' broadcast standards.''
The show also featured P. Diddy, Nelly and Kid Rock.
''We were extremely disappointed by elements of the MTV-produced halftime show,'' NFL executive vice president Joe Browne said. ''They were totally inconsistent with assurances our office was given about the content of the show.
''It's unlikely that MTV will produce another Super Bowl halftime.''

I'm not sure who decided, and when, that sex sells. To be constantly pushing the envelope to see how far a song can go, to get a profanity aired, a topic can be discussed in detail...our right to free speech has been twisted and warped so much that anything goes anymore. So much so that a person is a target if they speak their own morals and values that aren't main stream and "politically correct". I supposed I've developed my husband's way of dealing with things...we have our morals and our values and they are the ones that we live by. We try to teach these to our own children and demonstrate them to others by the way we live and act, but we can't force them on others...they'll answer to God for their actions just as we will.
I'm glad there are some who are still outraged and shocked by the behavior of others and are willing to do something about it.

Oh, yeah! Bill has been saying for ages what a horrible influence Rap is. Not to mention that it's the only form of music I know

FCC is the first I wrote too---so glad to see their stance.
You know what's so scary for me now is that the girls are frequently more aggressive than the boys. Rob was telling me that at the skate park Saturday in front of everyone, a girl he knows(and had gone to Christian school with for years)

We have a strict dress code for our daughter. DH's friend says about his daughter, "she's not going to be advertising something that isn't for sale". My DH goes a little overboard at times but I'd rather she was not sending the wrong message, no matter the fact that it's not an invitation.
It is so tough being a parent of teenage boys and/or girls. The things they face in school are just unbelievable. My DD (12 and in 7th grade) has strayed away (thankfully) from her best friend since kindergarten because said BF is now hanging out with girls that are boy crazy, talking about oral sex, and "the bases". These are 11 and 12 year old girls for crying out loud! Scary.
