is this the right place?

I've been lurking around this board for a while now and you seem like a nice bunch of ladies. I'm looking for a place to get the inspiration and encouragement that I need for getting fit. I became an exercise and diet dropout a while ago (and I have the 30+ excess lbs to prove it). I'm glad that I jumped off of the diet rollercoaster (after 20+ years of dieting I could no longer stand to count one more point, calorie, fat gram, carb, etc. - you get the picture). I have since found the anti-diet board and I no longer stress-out about eating. I have begun to focus on healthy eating vs. eating to lose weight - hopefully healthy eating combined with exercise will result in the latter (losing weight). I used to exercise regularly back in the day. Why I decided to throw out exercise along with dieting I will never understand! I guess I was just fed up with a lot of things at the time. Anyway, now that I have my eating under control I really have the urge to begin a regular exercise program. Yesterday I dusted off my membership card to "Ladies Workout Express" (similar to "Curves"), and I went there and really worked up a sweat - it felt great!!
So anyone else here ever let themselves go only to begin eating right and exercise themselves back into shape?? Should I try to go the the workout place everyday? I can't walk outside - my favorite exercise- no place to walk in the winter. How about videos?anybody have a favorite video to recommend? What do you think?

This is absolutely the right place to come for inspiration, advice, encouragement, ideas, and the occasional well-placed but gentle foot to the behind. You've been lurking long enough to get a feel for what we talk about, so be prepared for anything on- or off-topic.
All of us are looking for the best program to follow to achieve our goals of fitness, healthy diet, and weight loss. Some are fans of Jazzercise, some of the Firm series of videos, some of Curves, what have you. Some of us run, some of us walk - a lot! Some of us go to the gym, most of us do some level of weight training, and some of us made the investment in gym-level equipment for home and have stumbled on the exercises that work or we call on our fearless leader Phyllis for an occasional tinkering of our workout programs. As for eating programs, some of us are just being sensible, some of us are following Atkins, South Beach, Weight Watchers, or Curves' own eating plan.
Many programs - many things that work. The only things that are consistent are "Garbage in, garbage out" and "Eat less than you work off."
Hope to see you here a lot.

Dontcha just hate when weather interferes with your life? My favorite form of exercise is bicycling, so I know exactly how you feel.
I like videos because, unlike jazzerdeb, I'm not coordinated enough to do group exercise or dance... I have to rewind and go over parts over and over before I figure out how to do them... (ugh) This is much less embarrassing at home alone. ;-)
I think we all have let ourselves go at one point or another (some of us several times). The important part to remember (stealing from flylady)- you're not behind, you don't have to catch up. You just have to jump in right where you are.
Personally, I'm a big fan of the "do something" club - whether it's doing a 5 minute video warmup in the morning cuz I'm feeling really lazy, or going to the club to do a heavy sweaty weightlifting session, or anything in between. I find that building and establishing the habit of working out is the hardest part. Once I get that rebuilt, the rest comes much easier.
I encourage you to keep on lifting weights 2 to 3 times a week, (letting your muscles rest 48 hours between hitting the same muscle group again), and doing some form of aerobics 4-5 times a week. Remember to designate a "rest" day too. Your body needs recovery time too. Doing some light and some heavy days is also good. Most important though, is just doing something and giving yourself credit for caring enough about yourself to do it! You're already ahead of the game.
Welcome!
I think we all fall off, especially around the holidays. I gained back the weight I'd lost last year and ceased exercising (too many other demands on my time), but am getting back in the swing now. Hope you stay with us!
