LOL - great hats? Now I've *GOT* to see the movie!

Yeah, it is really awesome living here. I'm just astounded by it every once in a while... I've been here long enough for it to feel like "home". But, the place is far too wonderful to take for granted.

If ya'll (any of the ladies here) ever want to take a vacation to Italy, let me know - I'd be glad to put you up for a couple of nights, (if we're in town...)

Yes---there is a villa wedding scene that really stood out.

Anna---can you tell the Americans (tourists) from the locals by their shoes?

No, I don't think you're crazy. Europe is quite variable on prices, attitudes, food, etc. There are magical places, but you have to be willing to deal with some, erm, weirdness... like, I've *never* seen such a hodgepodge variety of, well, toilet facilities, in my life.

Anyways - there are lots of places in Europe that are friendly, many folks speak english, and are definitely worth visiting, Italy among them. I do recommend you try to learn at least the basic polite words of a language, Please, Thank you, Excuse me, and numbers, before you go anywhere. You'll get much better help and attitude from folks - except in, say, Sweden where pretty much everyone speaks english anyway.

One of these days, I'll post a "review" of european places I've been....

Oh goodness. The women around here *ALL* wear these horrible spike heel and high heel f***-me shoes - I wince just *looking* at them... Even on mopeds. and riding *bicycles*! All I can say is, I'm *WAY* glad that Alex doesn't have a shoe fetish. UGH.

Alex bought me (for my birthday) a pair of lace-up black Mephisto maryjanes for walking around in slacks or casual skirts. And I've got a pair of rockport black suede buckle shoes (almost ballet style) that are quite comfy. I wear my nikes when I'm working out or biking. The rest of the time, I wear the maryjanes or rockports. Except when I'm dressed up, of course.

I haven't seen a lot of Americans around here, period. Bologna isn't one of The Hot Tourist Spots, so folks tend to miss it. It's a lovely city, with wonderful people, but more of a "living" city than a "showcase" city.

So glad you and your friends had a great evening & you enjoyed the movie, Deb. I agree, the scenery was spectacular! The movie made me want to tour Tuscany & the other parts of Italy. I enjoyed the food parts, too! The acting was pretty good, although my favorite guy was the solicitor who seemed to have the meaningful & "chemistry" scenes with Frances, yet . . . I won't say anymore in order not to ruin it for anyone else, though. Oh well . . . it did have some meaningful metaphors, etc.
