Hi, all...doing ok here...hope you all are too. Trying to get used to the crutches...haven't fallen yet...:-) I was so fatigued yesterday, I didn't get to exercise. I don't know why I was so tired. But, I have learned to listen to my body and that is what I am going to do.

Talked to DS last evening. The two week course of antivirul meds are over and now it is the waiting game for the next 2 to 3 weeks. He is to watch for symptoms...either a sore at the puncture sight or any neurological symptoms like loss of balance and report to the doc right away. Poor guy is a nervous wreck and is losing weight from worry. I learned more than I wanted to yesterday talking to him. I was starting to feel more confident but then I got anxious myself all over again.

I actually forced myself not to weigh myself today. I am a daily (obsessive) weigher. I can't seem to start my day without getting on the scale. But, I will not put myself through that right now. I try to figure out how much the cast weighs and how much I might have gained or lost. Let's see if I can stay off the darn thing. The number I see can make or break my day and mood.

Have a great day all. Thinking of you all and wishing I could be around more.

Grace

Grace - Still hoping for a good report for your son. Poor guy - what a way to lose weight, worrying himself sick.

I'm not surprised you're tired - everyone I know who's tried to adjust temporarily to life with crutches felt that way. You're on one foot, you're struggling to balance, and you're working your upper body in a way you usually don't. I'm tired thinking about it.

Take care of yourself. And more good thoughts heading your son's way.

Will keep you and your ds in my thoughts and prayers, Grace. Do as the doctor says!

I really hope these next weeks go by fast for your ds and he escapes the danger.

Hugs,

Kat

Grace,

I've been thinking about your son a great deal and how difficult this waiting must be. I'll continue to keep him and the family in my thoughts and prayers and keep those positive feelings coming his way.

Do take care of yourself and you're right to listen to your body. DD was on crutches and a knee immobolizer a few years back and remember what a struggle it was for her to get around. Hoping your recovery goes well. I'm sure between the weather, worry and recuperation it's been a rough time for you.

Thinking of you,

Hugs,

Susan

Thinking of your son - thanks for the update on him, and I pray that NO symptoms surface.

I totally can relate to the frustrations and limitations of crutches. 2 years ago I broke a bone in my left foot and spent a month on crutches. (What was worse, being my left foot, I couldn't drive since our vehicles had manual transmission.) I managed, and rigged up systems to help me carry things around: sports bottle for coffee, string around my neck with alligator clips to carry papers, plastic grocery bags around the house to carry things... and the crutches themselves were great for whacking a laundry basket down the hall. In the kitchen, I used a chair with casters to get around. The most unnerving thing was going down stairs. I was very fearful of pitching forward and vaulting to the bottom in record time!

Take care of yourself, don't overdo it. And think of the upper body workout you're getting!
