Two weeks ago during the ice storm, we lost power for 12 hours, from 10pm Monday night to 10am the next morning. While the sudden loss of light and sound at night worried Allison, when morning came, she thought it was a big adventure. The Cus started a fire in our fireplace and I made coffee on the single burner propane stove we purchased a while back when the area was threatened by a hurricane. Allison delighted in layering on her clothes and playing in front of the fireplace. When the power came back on, The Cus and I were both outside talking to a neighbor, so Allison was the one who hollered the news out the door.

Fast-forward: We went up to MIL's house in the mountains for the SuperBowl weekend. Initially we'd planned to return home on Monday, but the weather forecast was indicating more icy conditions heading towards the mountains and south along our route home. Overnight, we had two brief power outages (MIL is equipped with a generator which is hooked up to her gas lines, thus prepared for any extended outages), and Monday morning, we decided it would be safer if we stayed an extra day. It ended up being a relaxing, easy-going day. Allison delighted in extra play time with Mom-mom, and at one point the two of them were playing with Bitty Baby and Bear in the office where Allison sleeps. Allison started getting non-functioning phones, blankets and flashlights and hauling them into the room. Then she turned off the lights, and proceeded to play "Power Outage" with Mom-mom. They comforted Bear and Bitty Baby who were worried about the storm. Allison "called" the power company to report the outage, and in the end they all "moved" into a hotel for the duration!

Li'l Al has a good imagination. I just love to see children have fun like that - bet

Mom-mom enjoyed playing with her. I miss things like that with my Danny!
