Just wondering if any of you buy things on ebay? Have you had good experiences?

I redid my entire wardrobe with ebay when I got my new job a couple years ago. It worked really well. I used paypal and got the stuph right away. Just pay attention to the "seller" ratings. If it's someone who's screwed people over, it'll show up in their rating. I've only heard of one person having a problem once... I'm sure it happens, but it's rarer than you might expect.

I guess I must be really out of touch here. Not a Sex in the City person. Could someone please explain to me what the attraction to Manolo Blahnik(sp?) shoes are? I happen to think most of them make feet look much bigger than they are!! And personally, I haven't seen many styles that are "really" special. Definitely not special enough to pay upwards of $300 for!!! Maybe I'm in denial or something. Am I missing something?

A lot of it is just name recognition now. Same with Jimmy Choo and some of the other celeb favorites. It's one thing to invest that kind of money in something that is really incredibly made of the highest quality materials, but a few tiny strips of leather on a sole

Yes, I've e-bayed before as both a buyer and a seller. Paypal has never been a problem for me - as a seller, I got an account that allowed me to accept credit card transactions. Slight fee as a seller, but worth it - no fees as a buyer with Paypal.

Anyhoo. The reason why you find yourself outbid so quickly is that other bidders put in a maximum amount they will pay, rather than just an incremental bid. Say there's an item currently selling for $10 and you're interested. Incremental bids are $1. You've decided you'll pay up to $25 for it. Instead of bidding $11, you can put a bid in for $25. Only $11 will show up, but if somebody else comes and bids $12, you'll immediately outbid that person at $13. If somebody bids $20, you'll outbid them at $21. That will continue until somebody outbids your maximum at $26. The good thing about maximum bids is that if you're the winning bid at $18, you pay $18 for the item, not the $25 max you were willing to pay.

Does that clear things up for you?

Yep--one more question, do the sellers choose maximum bids or incremental?
