Click on the link below for a little linguistics quiz. It's fun.

BTW - I'm barely a Yankee; born and bred in Beantown, and I'm barely a Yankee. Go figure....

Pretty strong Dixie - not too surprised since I've lived somewhere in the southeast for a total of 30 years. My pronunciations are pretty much "used every where in the US" (probably because of a California father and German mother who had English as a second language) but there are definitely some southernisms in my speech. Do y'all want me to pick up some cokes? Yeah, just put 'em in a bag, here. We'll be thirsty after rolling the green. ...Naw, I don't want to hunt for crawdads today, the rain brought out the roly polies and I need to sweep the porch. (Though I've called them sow bugs too.)

On the other hand, I frost my kid's birthday cake, and I like reading about and traveling on Root 66, chocolate covered Car-mels are delicious, and we have garage sales - even the time we had a joint one with my parents and they didn't have a garage! (We joked that we sold it.)

I have a shore named for me?! Gee, I wonder who knew I was such a beach-fan . I'd love to know how that came about. Other than some regional dialect that strangely slurs "down the shore" into a single word, I can't imagine.

Right on "spukie" - we used to have them every Saturday for lunch when I was a kid with these strange and wonderful combinations of fritattas that my grandmother or mother would whip up on a moment's notice. Seldom did we use deli meats for fillings.

Why does it always come back to food??
