our house and just about a block from Rob's best friend's house yesterday that burned tens of acres. The road had been closed down for an hr., but they were letting a few cars at a time go through when we passed by on our way to my sister's. There were 4 fire engines, 4 police cars, and 2 fire SUV's there! Smoke was thick, but the fire wasn't visible. When we passed by about 9 last night there was still one engine there. This morning before daylight there was a news van and another vehicle there and smoke was still hanging in the air. I thought about it, because it's raining now, and I'm glad in case there's anything still

So scary!

Are you really dry down there? Hope the rain puts it all out today.

Hugs.

That is too close for comfort. I'm kind of surprised to hear acres burned - I thought you'd had a bit of rain recently. I hope there aren't any more flare-ups.

That is too close! I'm glad you and Rob's friend's home escaped the fire. Hope the rain has doused it.

I'm always glad to see rain during our summers - I remember years of water rationing & brush fires (although E. Texas is pretty much a wet area compared to other parts of Texas). I don't envy the folks out west with the water and utility problems, not to mention all of those fires that have destroyed so many homes. It's amazing that CA is having so many floods right now! That never happened when I lived out there.

Wow, that's the kind of excitement anyone could do without. Thank goodness no homes were damaged or residents injured. Hopefully the rain will be steady and plentiful to quelch the last of whatever is smoldering.

Luckily, we have had some rain recently, and it rained most of last night. I think we'll have rain off-and-on for the next couple of days too. The underbrush gets so dry here in the winter that it doesn't take much to get it going. Last night when I drove by I could smell that faint bad smell of wet burned wood. I don't think anything could burn here today though. I noticed the squirrels are really active today. Don't know if there's some significance to that.
