'Fess Up - Who Watched the Oscars??

Who of you lost valuable, unretrievable beauty sleep time? I had the show on, saw a few minutes, dozed off and on, and caught the Big 4 at the end. I didn't hear or read about anything politically controversial, but Billy Crystal au naturel? Please. Not necessary, even in context. Other than that, I thought his opening number was funny, especially with the image of the giant creature from LOTR crushing Michael Moore under his foot.

Fashion critique - I thought the women looked amazing, EXCEPT 1) for Uma Thurman (I once wore a Halloween costume that looked like her outfit only better), and 2) Diane Keaton (will she ever let Annie Hall RIP?). I never got a really good look at what Joan Rivers was wearing, but I also hated Melissa Rivers' gown - vintage isn't good on everyone, and what good is vintage with cheap, breakable shoes?!. As for the men, all good, EXCEPT Peter Jackson (what a mess) and Johnny Depp's hair (plus I still don't get the sexiest man label on him, but I don't really have to).

Favorite gown? Well, since I love red, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Shohreh Agdahloo were standouts. But Patricia Clarkson's pale copper gown also scored high on my list.

I was watching it in bed and fell asleep 1/2 way through. So..I didn't find out until this morning who won the last 3 big catagories.

I had it on at beginning to see the montage of Crystal (hilarious!) and then only the last of it for the big 4 awards.

Yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The actors I tend to think of as nice looking (yes, I still think J. Depp is good looking) are the ones whose personalities I'd never go for (if I was in a position to meet them)!!!! Of course! They're always the rebel, extreme liberal/poet-artsy type - come to think of it, I had a couple of ex-boyfriends and an ex-husband with those types of personalities. One ex-boyfriend looked like Keanu Reeves (I was only 17). Luckily, lately, I've only been interested in the down-to-earth types. I've finally gotten beyond good looks to good character as the attraction.

Didn't see too many gowns, but I did like Nicole's.

Oh, gosh, you know how I am. I always watch. I watched from the "E" Red Carpet Show and to the bitter end of the awards, but I was also cooking dinner, doing dishes, working on the newsletter, etc., when the lesser awards and commercials were on.

I thought I'd heard earlier this week that Mel had been invited, but politely told the Academy to stick their invitation in their collective ears. I'm certain there would have been more hooplah if he were there and a lot fewer snide unprepared remarks.

Michael Moore - what a waste of three syllables...

When I finally saw the full shot of Nicole my reaction to the hemline was similar to yours, but the dress was so flattering I got past the hem. Maybe a shade or two darker would have been more striking (I'm remembering a dress Helen Hunt wore to one of the awards shows that was a beautiful icy blue), but I'd have taken it if someone offered it to me and I were 5'9" tall without shoes and 12 lbs soaking wet.

And I'm sorry about your headache - both too little AND too much sleep make me feel sick.

With the money the film is generating I have a feeling the powers that be will be stumbling all over themselves to get close to Mel and to get knockoff films in the works to ride his coattails. They probably won't get that it's the sincerity and effort to make it as factual as possible that is making it such a success. We don't want to see Jesus blasphemed by portraying him as a whimp, a homosexual, or as having an affair with Mary Magdalene as has been done in the past. People are searching for the truth.

About the dresses, even though Julia Roberts' dress was pretty in itself, I thought the color with her new haircolor and skintone wasn't good on her. Also, was it me or did Charlize's makeup make her look sick or anemic? She looked so much better at the Golden Globes.

If the rest of Hollywood comes crawling back, it'll prove that he's in the power seat now and their motives will be crystal-clear. The PR machine out there is going to be spinning overtime if it even looks remotely like they're cozying up to him and hoping to ride his coattails.

Supposedly Charlize just got back from a beach vacation (I can't believe I'm up on this stuff!). Her tan, her blonde hair, her light eyes, (her still-skinny eyebrows), her pale lipstick, her pale dress - well, all I can say is if that were me, I'd be on a slab in a morgue with a tag on my toe - deathly. My first and only time as a fashionista....
