Back in high school, I did my fast food time at Wendy's for a little over a year. Most people grow tired of the food from where they work because that's pretty much what you dine on during brreaks, but to this day I still like Wendy's burgers and especially Wendy's fries.

Friday nights we usually do fast food carry out. Most of the time it's sub sandwiches at the Sub Station II nearby, but we do pull in taco salads, pizzas and Arby's roast beef for variety. Wendy's is on the list too, usually their loaded baked potatoes, but we splurge on burgers and fries every once in a while. This past Friday, I asked Allison what she wanted for dinner, "Sub sandwiches, Arby's roast beef or burgers from Wendy's?" She voted for Wendy's; I filed that, thinking by the time dinnertime came, I might override her. As the afternoon wore on, Wendy burgers sounded better and better, and that's where we went to pick up our Friday night carry out.

On the way home, with the aroma filling the car, I reflected upon when I worked at Wendy's. I was 17, 5'3" or so and weighed 107-110 pounds. I must've had burgers and fries several days a week, and my fellow employees and I would get creative with what we dipped our fries in when ketchup got boring - mustard, mayo, a mix of both. (I ended up liking the mayo-mustard mix, the mustard giving the sauce a bite.) Now, in my 40s, I avoid having a fast food burger more than once every 3 months, knowing just one day of indulging will set me back. And I wouldn't dream of dunking fries in mayo-mustard! How did I survive working there without putting on 20 pounds?!

I'm here to tell ya though... I enjoyed every bite of that burger and each fry (frie?), without guilt! It was a rare treat.

My daughter likes to dip her fries in bar-b-que sauce sometimes.
