made for the weekend? DD is taking me to a mother daughter brunch on Sunday. She is a teacher and she is bringing me. Things have turned around some here.

The doctor took the soft cast off but I am to wear good supportive athletic shoes at all times, even when I get out of bed in the middle of the night. That is a pain! The bone is better but still not completely healed through. I also have that temporary osteoporosis in the foot. I am supposed to take it easy...whatever that means. I asked if I could use the recumbent bike and the doc said yes as long as I take it easy and stop if I experience any pain at all. I will wait until Monday to try since foot is feeling "uncomfortable" right now.

Doing well with the eating so far. Being home has helped to get back on track. I bought lots of fresh fruit and vegetables today so I can stick to it. I even bought

I do have a great weekend planned. Thought it was going to start off funky...when I drove by DH's truck up the street and there were two police cars behind him with lights going...(DH was grinning and waving at me when we drove by). Apparently we just stared at him and I was shaking my head. The second time I drove by, DH was out of the truck, looked like his hands were cuffed in front of him and the police officers were searching his truck. I drove by like I didn't even know him...(although I looked at him out of the corner of my eyes...he sure looked gorgeous standing there). When he got home (only a few minutes after me), I went out to great him and told him not to park his truck on the street if he had escaped! Turns out, he was not in hand cuffs, although they were searching his truck. He had gone up to the church to see if I was still there. Drove around the back side of the parking lot (we always do to check out the far parking lot for hoodlums) and there were 3 police cars sitting there (not unusual to see one or two there writing up their reports, etc.) and he kept right on driving. They came flying out after him with lights blaring and sirens going. One came around the other side to block him from going forward! They asked him what he was doing up at the church and why he kept right on going. He told them I work there and he's also a deacon. They didn't believe him. I guess finally they did since they let him go. It was bizarre. And then the phone rang after he got home and all the pieces started coming together. I forgot that when I left the church, I had trouble setting the alarm and the alarm went off. I immediately reset it and stood around waiting for several minutes for the phone to ring. The security company is supposed to call immediately. They didn't call. I set the alarm and left. Apparently, they called after I left and, getting no response, called the police. Poor old DH comes lumbering by 10 minutes later and I guess they thought he was the perp. I'm laughing about it. He's a bit annoyed that I'm thinking it was so funny. Especially since about 20 people we know drove by and saw him pulled over :)

Oh, well. Tonight we're going to dinner with our Pastor (who's also my boss) and his wife. They drove by our house as DH and I were outside talking about his criminal incident and they thought it was hysterical, too! Should be fun with them at dinner tonight!

Tomorrow morning, the criminal and I are doing a good power walk to the lake and back. I'm cleaning out our basement tomorrow. Tomorrow evening we're having dinner with friends. Sunday is church stuff. Sounds like a good weekend shaping up. Lots of laughter already (the poor guy is still scowling) :)

Hugs!

Have fun with DD, Grace.

Sassy

Well, Patty...I didn't put the shoe on last night. I never put it on with the first foot either. First of all...it is very hard to get into one. I cannot bend the big toe joint and it is a struggle to get even my biggest shoes on. I would first have to put a sock on and then painfully jam the shoe on. Then, I ended up getting up 3 times last night too. I was just very careful.

It was so nice to take a shower without covering my foot up with the cast cover. I wonder if I was supposed to wear a shoe into the shower? I am not even going to go there!

I am wondering what to wear to the brunch. I have a bunch of nice winter outfits I never got to wear because of being in a cast or athletic shoes. I really want to look nice tomorrow. Maybe I will wear a shoe on the good foot and wear the surgical shoe or athletic shoe on the healing foot.

Take care! How is your finger doing? I hope you are healing up nicely.

Grace, I was just thinking this morning during my shower how happy I was to be dealing with just one finger and not a foot. I hadn't even thought about what you go thru with a shower!!!How do you manage to teach your classes with the shoe situation?

My finger is healing well.Everytime I look at it I'm grateful and realize how lucky I am.I'm taking it out of the splint more and trying to move it more. Can't believe how just 2 wks has made it so stiff. How the heck are you managing after a cast for so long???

I hope you find just the right thing to wear tomorrow. And whatever it is I know you'll look great!!!

My foot is really stiff. Besides that...the atrophy in my muscles was a bit much. I am glad it comes back pretty quick. The one thing that concerns me is the "cast disease". The bones in my foot look and are washed out. It can take up to a year for the bone to come back completely.

Showers were a scary thing for me. Trying to balance on one foot with nothing to hold to was a challenge. I am glad I am past that! One funny thing...the skin on the bottom of my feet are very slippery. It is new skin because the old skin has flaked and peeled away. You just never know what is going to happen next.

I am now looking forward to using all the scrubs and body washes DDs gave me. I have been saving them for when I can really enjoy my showers. I didn't think it was a good idea to use the body scrubs that are based in oil when I had the cast cover on (it would get greasy). The tub would be too slippery.

I go to bed early now too...I can't wait to take my shoes off at night because foot swells and the shoe feels so tight. I think I am going to wrap my foot so I can get up in the middle of the night without feeling guilty. It should support it more.

Glad you finger is doing so much better. Yes..you were lucky. I was getting chills thinking of what could have happened. Good you can exercise it...it is important to keep it limber.

Take care and nice chatting with you.
