I've been looking at his book and trying to decide about getting it.I saw him do an interview on tv the other day and really liked his approach.Yesterday in Walmart they had one of his journals left and I was tempted to get it.I read a review where one person said the journal really made the program work for them. Thanks for posting this.

I've got "Body for Life" at home; it only hints at some of the recipes that are probably in "Eating for Life".

I like his approach and attitude, too. He's the first fitness guy I can remember saying you don't have to kill yourself with an hour of cardio, how working above your target zone doesn't benefit you anymore than a solid 20-30 minutes within it. I'm finally taking that advice. I also like his "slow-burn" approach to weight training.

THanks for posting, Phyllis!

Looking at the picture, I thought this was a joke post.

I still think the photo is a joke.

The first menu change looked like a joke to me, too.

Not sure I'm able to take this guy seriously now :)

I checked out his book at the library - think it was "Body for Life" or something. Anyway, I thought his program would work well for someone who had constant access to a gym or had all of that kind of equipment in their home. Since I don't have the equipment, his program is not for me. I'm a party pooper on this particular menu - I can't stomach shakes - I like food too much. I love my fruit juice smoothie w/soy protein in the morning, but can't stand "healthy" milk based shakes. I don't know why, it's just not my thing. I love solids too much, I guess.

Anyway, to each his own . . . I do like Bob Greene, though!

My issue with Bill Phillips' credibility is that he markets a line of nutrition products -EAS I think is the name. That puts me off a bit. What's wrong with real food?

That being said, SBD's Dr. Agatston is also coming out with a food product line. I hope it goes no further than frozen carb-smart meals, but I suspect he'll go the way of Atkins and have a whole line of stuff out there.

It's up to us how to spend out money. I'd still rather eat fresh food that I cook rather than frozen, or energy bars or drinks full of stuff I can't pronounce, so probably the only thing that would make it into my refrigerator is SBD-brand frozen dinners.

Sassy, those same kinds of pictures and testimonials are in Body for Life. I found them interesting and a bit unbelievable also. Then again, there are devotees of weight-loss/exercise programs who can afford to spend every waking minute in the gym and every bit of "disposable" income on nutritional aids. I'm not that driven, and I'd venture to guess that none of us here truly are, either.

I'm with you Donna! More and more I'm becoming an advocate of unprocessed foods without all of the added "stuff" in them. With any luck, I'll be harvesting organic veggies from my own veggy patch in 6 weeks or so!

You've heard me talk about dh's cousin. She is in the RCMP up here and there are a number of members that do the body for life program. I'm so leery of all the programs that want you to buy there products. Like the EAS stuff.

Dh's cousin was going to one of the gym's here when she was getting ready to go into the police academy and dropped quite a bit of weight and bulked up her muscle. Then she let me in on a secret. She took some stuff that was called Androlean (I think). She bought me a bottle, which I never did take because I smoked. I found it up on the top shelf when I was cleaning out the linen closet a couple of weeks ago. When I started reading the label, I discovered it had Ephedrine in it. I believe that was one of the ingredients in Phen Phen and that is why it was pulled from the market...correct? Thanks but no thanks. I flushed the whole thing down the toilet! I can't help but wonder if the fertility problems she is now facing may have anything to do with her penchant for supplements!

Just my ramblings.

Your soy protein smoothie is a nutrition shake.

I don't think the photo or any of the menu changes are a joke.

I agree! I had a nice set of dumbbells which were relatively inexpensive. Especially if you catch them on sale. We have the weight machine now, but I still always use my dumbbells. The only thing I use the machine for is lat pull-downs (which are one of my fave exercises), chest press (only to make dh happy...I always did the chest presses with the dumbbells and do chest flys with the dumbbells) and I use the bench for my sit ups because I have to stabilize my core on it and it works my body harder.

You definitely don't need a weight machine. I don't do leg work on the machine...I use my dumbbells and do squats and lunges. In fact, doing the squats with the bar on the machine really hurt my right knee, but my knee is fine with the 20 pound dumbbells (although I shake it up, per Dr. Phyl). Get a set that has 5's on up to 20's and you should be good. Miss Phyllis has ingenious (or is that evil) ways of shaking up my workouts and helping me to feel the burn!

I have truly discovered that the no carb way does not work for me. I'm going to get Eat for Life because it looks like enough food and enough variety for me and something that all of us could benefit from.

I should have used the word "parody", not "joke".

Sorry.
