Good visit with the Doc....

I really like her. She's an internal meds doc, but "does it all". I'm thinking of ditching my fave OB/GYN (Peter) who's been with me thru all of my baby-making and delivering for this Doctor.

She knew EXACTLY what I was talking about. Finished my sentences for me. She's young, but...she's a woman! Not to say that men don't know, but I just really felt like she could sympathize with me. Peter would have just nodded and handed me a script for drugs (there IS something to be said for that, too ;) I know that some of you ladies adore your male docs...I really do adore Peter, and will keep him in my book.

So, she asked if I had ever taken anything for anxiety. I have, after I stopped nursing Brett my hormones went wacky and I was a bit anxious and stressed, but nothing like these days. She didn't like what I had been taking before (that Peter had prescribed). Xenex. Never knew it was habit forming. She said the new seretonin drugs are much better and I can start and stop them at will, but keep in mind that it takes 5 days or so for it to really take hold. She suggested I take them for 3 weeks before my period starts and then stop the week of my period, which really is an okay time for me. We'll see. She didn't have any samples, but gave me a prescription. I'll get it filled this week. She assured me side effects were rare and consisted of light nausea and maybe slight anxiety the first couple of days I take them. She wants me to take them at night as they should help me sleep a little better (have heard that about seratonin). So, we'll see. I'm not a big drug taker. Hate it actually and tend to "forget" about them.

But I felt better just talking with her about it and knowing that she has a large number of patients that have truly been helped with these drugs. I'll be on a real low dose...10mg.

Had to apologize to all my children today for my raging moments this morning. Oldest (who is on my LIST in a big way these days) gave me a hug and kiss. He was just sucking up.

Still taking lots of deep breaths today!

I meant to post about the guitar sooner, but my "perimeni-onset ADD" made it slip my mind. That happens too many times, which reminds me I need to write a long overdue post to Michele. I think it's great that you can play a 12-string. They sound so wonderful. When America came here in concert their guys were just awesome on 12-strings -- kind of provoked some interest on Rob's part, but right now he's mainly focusing on electric and acoustic/electric. I have yet to get the money for a previous guitar of his that's on consignment at a music shop.

Bet you're right about the hormone changes and all being related to your recent stage fright. I have a feeling when things settle down in general, you'll feel more comfortable in that area too. I had a minor version of sort of stage fright the other day at my Cowford Ball meeting when I thought I was going to have to give a committee report (unprepared) in front of 30 people who knew what they were doing and 28 didn't know me from Adam. I talked myself out of it, but it wasn't comfortable.

Good for you Sassy! I'm glad you found a doc you can relate to. That's so important. My doc has all women nurse practitioners that do most of the 'grunt' work and they are very easy to talk to. I love it.

And I'm hopeful that your prescription will help you. You'd be surprised how many people take them. I take an SSRI and it's wonderful. I don't like taking it either...more drugs=getting old to me. But they do help.

Good for you for talking yourself out of it! You are such a confident person...I can't imagine you couldn't just "wing it!".

I've put my 12 string aside for now. WOuld really like to get the Ovation accoustic (6-string). We're also looking for a bass guitar for Shawn. He's interested in learning.

I LOVE America...I've always favored groups that use a lot of guitars.

At the guitar center, I had Russell get me an Ovation accoustic 12-string down. Oh my! It sounded like heaven! But, I already have a 12-string and don't have a 6 string...so maybe next time!

So it's really NOT you and it really IS everyone else - like you didn't already know that. Nice to have it validated by your doc, though.

I read your other post. I'm sorry Mt Sassy erupted so at the family, but maybe your doc's validation will help them understand this is serious business. 15-20 days a month of sleeplessness, stress, etc isn't a good way to feel. And sleeplessness, stress, etc just feeds off itself and makes things spiral downward further. Whatever helps you over it, within reason - do it! You get drugs - I'll take M&Ms for now. Want some?

Glad you're back. Thanks for the re-validation, too :)

I'm really not that confident and have to fake it a lot. I'm doing much better as I get older though, care less about what other people think and that helps. You wouldn't believe what a scaredy cat I was for about 10 years.

Rob used to play bass and has had two, but sold them to get money to put toward upgrading his guitars. He started out with very basic one, but has traded so much that he's ended up with some very nice ones. I'm learning that a lot of the expensive guitars are actually made by other companies and almost none of them are made in the States. I can't remember which, but Rob would know.

I hope you'll get the 6-string and make use of your talent! If you like good guitar, there's a newer group out (a couple of years, I think) called Days of the New that has some fantastic guitars in their songs. I'm not crazy about the singer's voice, but Rob likes it a lot. For
