I'm mad and sad, went and hurt myself

OK I know I should have listened to my body but I thought no pain no gain. Stupid me. I pulled a tendon behind my left leg and now I sit with ice on it. I will not work out again for a few days. That saying no pain no gain is gone forever. I live in Orlando for those who wanted to know , and as for diet, I still eat what I want but in smaller portions. I will work out upper body until I can start to walk again without pain. Has anyone else done this, and if so what did you do and how long did it take to heal. I miss walking. Diann

I've overdone it before. Last year when I got restarted in exercising, I pulled a hamstring. I cut back on the vigorous exercises and did more strength and gradually went back to more active stuff. It took a few months to work out. With running, I'd have to take week-long breaks to help rest up - I was plunging in too deep too fast. Once took a two week break and was pain-free... until a week before I ran a race in November. I pulled a muscle or something in my hip. After the race I might've run once in 2 months, giving it total rest, and here it is 5 months later and still hurting. I've given up on it feeling 100% and like last year with the hamstring, I'm getting back into running, applying ice afterwards, heat at night, and it is gradually working itself out.
I'd suggest giving it a week or two off, see how you feel. I don't think you'll get set that far behind again.

That saying no pain, no gain is not a good one. Thankfully, as an instructor I can tell people that and tell them to listen to their body. Sometimes you have to push yourself, but your body needs one or two days a week of rest.
I hope it isn't too serious a pull. Keep doing the RICE...rest, ice, compression and elevation. If it doesn't get better in a couple of days...go see a doctor.
Take care and be careful with your workouts from now on. We don't like to see our FOF buddies hurting.

Sorry to hear about your injury. Hopefully it won't be too long before you are back in the game.
