Nancy - I missed some things over the weekend and just caught up with all the postings last evening. Hope the doc can find a reason for your MIL's dizzy spells and nausea. Those are troubling enough, but all I can think of is your MIL taking a spill with the dizziness and not being able to reach a telephone.
My BIL's mother had bout with the flu, a high fever, and inner ear infection this winter), and has recently been diagnosed with Meniere's Syndrome. Her older granddaughter went to visit her after work one day and found she had fallen from the dizziness and couldn't hear in one ear. Fortunately, no broken bones or bumps on the head, but what could have happened and how long she could have been on the floor was really worrisome to my BIL and sister; she's just turned 65 and is in good health, but she lives alone. Has your MIL been tested for Meniere's? I don't mean to practice amateur medicine, but it's not something normally tested for. Lots of hits on Google about it. Just a thought.

Hope everything is ok...

That is one of the things that she will be checked for, I believe.
