HANGING VS FOLDING:
WHAT TO HANG:
Linen, rayon, or all-cotton blouses-they’re prone to wrinkles
Slippery silks and satins, which can slide around in a drawer
Delicate fabrics that crush easily like raw silk, velvet, chiffon, taffeta
Pressed shirts, to keep them free of fold marks
Suit jackets and blazers – pieces with a definite shape to maintain
Pants with creases
Anything with pleats-to keep the vertical lines crisp
Most dresses, especially tailored styles
Outdoor jackets and overcoats
Bathrobes (by the loop, please)
Ties, on a special rack-knitted ones should be rolled
Anything featherweight-tiny tank tops and dressy camisoles for example.
WHAT TO FOLD:
Knitwear-tops, pants, skirts, and dresses
Sweaters, cashmere to cotton, cardigan to pullover
Bias-cut and A-line skirts and dresses (hanging them can distort their shape)
Long evening dresses, particularly those weighted with ornamentation
Cotton T-shirts, folded neatly to minimize wrinkles
Jeans, khakis, and cords-any casual pants or sorts in rugged materials
Scarves and shawls
Lingerie and socks
Sweats-and other sportswear-leggings, bike shorts, yoga pants in fleece, cotton, or spandex
Stretchy synthetics-they’ll spring back into shape
