Did you chickens leave? I have a silly question and maybe someone has asked you before and I missed it..........Who do you raise the chickens for? Are they like the ones we buy in the grocery store, or are they egg laying chickens? How long do you raise them? Are they chicks when the come to you? You mentioned they were "different" this time, what makes then different? Just got me curious, sorry.

Hey Deb!!!I raise chickens for a company that is based in Arkansas. The local company I was with sold their business about a year ago. Most of what we raise goes to fast food businesses.I keep each flock an average of 40 days.I kept 2 houses 38 days this time and the other two I had for 42 days. They come to me as soon as they hatch. With this flock we had 2 different types of breeds. The company is making a transition back to a breed that typically does better and is easier to manage.I will be very happy once the transition is made. Also because of some growers have had avain flu and other problems, those of us who haven't have had much less time off. Plus we've had more birds in each house. This has really taken a toll on both the birds and the growers.Hopefully by late summer that situation will be better.

So, what are the breeds that we are consuming in our local fast food chains these days?

It sounds tough and very exacting. I'm glad you're getting a break soon. Thanks for all those chicken sandwiches, nuggets, and tenders
