Back from college reunion!

Only problem is, there was more of me to come back! Wayyyyy too much eating! Anyway, had a great trip from SC to Montgomery, AL and a wonderful visit with my friend Beth and her family. The 3 kids got along great - her two, one of each gender and both school aged, stopped short of fighting over Allison but it was very clear that they both wanted to win her favor! Her poor son felt a little left out because he's not into Disney Princesses or Polly Pockets, but when Beth set the 3 of them up with Legos in his room, they all ended up having a "sleepover" that night in his room with sleeping bags on the floor.
Beth and I shared our college scrap books, took long walks together, ate out and did some window shopping at the newer upscale places in the old town. Non-stop chatter. Lots of eating. LOTS of eating! Our husbands got along well, too, since both of them graduated from Tennessee same year and even in the same odd month (not at year end), and since they have other interests besides the usual male pasttimes of golf, fishing, hunting, etc.
The college reunion itself wasn't that big of a deal. Only five members of our class came, but we got a long campus tour (a lot has changed in 20 years), and did some of the scheduled activities. The kids had a play area with face painting and bounce houses. Sadly, the students no longer put on the Homecoming Show that we did when we attended. It stemmed from past May Day celebrations, and used to involve just about the entire student body - the green would be filled with parents and former students. Since the 90s, students have lost interest in pulling something like that together - it's down to just the crowning of the Homecoming Queen and presentation of the court. Not a whole lot to bring past students back like May Day of old or our own Homecoming did. In the future, as our recently formed football team gets more ingrained in the sport, Homecoming will probably be moved to the Fall, and at least past students will have more of a reason to go again. It was also sad for Beth and I to see our dorm locked up. They've built newer dorms with more features like a kitchenette, but the rooms are tiny. Right now the college doesn't have the need to keep our old dorm, with it's large rooms open. Another old dorm is being used for teacher's offices, and that's always a possibility for ours... but it's sad to think it may be razed some day.
Drive back was pleasant and uneventful. Wish we could've had one more day here at home just to unwind.
But while I have your attention ;^), let me share some caricatures done by a local artist at our homecoming. The artist was hired for half a day to do caricatures of anyone who wanted them - no charge. I've had 2 done before (one when I was 12, one about 10 years ago), and they're fun to look back on. So I insisted that all 3 of us get one done - Allison by herself, and The Cus and I together. The guy did a great job, I think! Check out how The Cus is holding my leg and a camera!
