about the horrendous death of the American at extremist hands in Iraq? I am having trouble even thinking about the pain and agony he went through and what his family must be suffering. I know they are blaming the US for his death for detaining him, but why didn't he leave the country when he was advised to by the US because it was too dangerous for civilians to be there. So many thoughts and feelings swirling around me here. I do hope it shows the world the difference between the US and Iraqi extremists.

Prayers for his suffering family....

I'm having a lot of trouble with the barbaric treatment also.

I've made no secret of my political views, so I'll just post an email response I sent to someone else who is just sickened by what happened and by the world's response to current events:

"I so totally agree with you!! If we let the bleeding heart liberals (including most media) have their way we truly will have another Vietnam on our hands. It won't do us a bit of good to be known as being noble or highly principled if we're dead. I definitely feel we need to keep the war over there and not have a repeat of 9/11 or be fighting guerilla-style on our streets. Those lunatics know only force and their hatred cannot be reasoned away. I think my husband said it best when he said we should have a "take no prisoners" attitude, then we wouldn't have to worry about any prison incidents. And by the way, although I agree what was done

from foxnews.com - muted display of video on Al-Jazeera and similar news outlets....I wonder why.

By the way, I'm the one Rhonda referred to in her post. I'm seething over this. I want the US to react like a power to be reckoned with, not like it's ok to keep killing Americans without ruthless payback. I e-mailed because I was a little more - um - colorful than usual and truly didn't want to cause pain to a former member of this board who might still lurk on occasion.

Yes, I'm hoping our war efforts step up, too! I'm too angry to write any more.

I agree with you all, this is insane. How we allow this to continue is a disgrace. Why in heavens name are we allowing this to continue. We talked about this last night and my husbands thoughts were to go in there and just level this place. My God the way they made such a fuss over how we treated those captured, where are those bleeding hearts now. Why do we always have to be the nice guys, I for one am sick of it.

I've only read about it, and I was appalled at the act. These people have absolutely no respect for human life - ramming planes into buildings, setting bombs off to kill even their own people, unspeakable cruelty. It's not surprising at all that Saddam and Osama and probably a host of many other of the terrorist leaders are hiding like rats and ordering fanatical followers to do their bidding.

I'm equally appalled, though, at the treatment the Iraqi prisoners have undergone at the one prison. It as absolutely deplorable and totally unAmerican. What we've seen is mild compared to the photos and videos lawmakers have now seen, and it's the sort of stuff that you'd expect to hear happening in China, or in the past in Japanese or Vietnamese POW camps or Russia - not at the hands of Americans. I don't feel that justifies the death of Nick Berg, but needs to be dealt with swiftly and harshly. No less than court marshalls and prison time.

My two cents on all of this: I don't think the President's apology for the prisoner abuse was politically motivated - I think he is truly apalled and wants the wrongdoers brought to justice. I also don't think it is a sign of weakness that he apologized. I approve of his not wanting this scandal to cause us to back down on our efforts to wipe out terrorism - wherever it may be - in Iraq, Afghanistan, you name it. After what happened on 9/11, I personally feel it our duty to never give up the fight on terrorism. I feel that in the fight against terrorism, we have to be very aggressive and obliterate the terrorists.

My personal opinion is that today's war in no way resembles Vietnam.

I agree that Pres. Bush's apology isn't a sign of weakness, but in Middle Eastern culture it is perceived that way, and unfortunately in this war, that's what counts. I don't feel this is a Vietnam either, and the generals and other people in the know say that we have been almost 100% successful militarily when the politicians have backed off and let the military do their jobs. It's when the liberals and others with John Kerry-like thinking get scared or delusional

It seems like a contradiction to say that we have no business over there and then to say that it is our responsibility since we are a world power and leader of the free world.
