Hello, Everyone...I'm new here...

I'm new - OK, actually I'm Mary - but you can call me "Peach."
So what's this all about (Alfie)? Here I am - I'll be 42 in a couple of weeks. I've been through two lousy marriages, have two great kids and my spirit is finally at peace. But...after working hard to rebuild my life, I've forgotten about me in the process.
It's finally time for me to focus on myself and getting my health back after focusing on the kids and everyone else. I'm ready to lose 20 pounds and get fit. But where the heck do I start? Well, I've got an appointment with the doctor for my first complete physical in years...I'm hoping to meet with a nutritionist (or someone akin to that) to help me develop a fitness program tailored to my needs, etc. and remind me to stop eating my emotions. Heck - it's the one thing I haven't had to work hard for - yummy food that's bad for you. But I've paid the price.
So...any encouraging stories out there? Any hints? I'm feeling as though I'm on the right track, but have gained and lost the same eight pounds over the last four years over and over and over...I sure hope I can break down whatever wall has kept me from reaching my goal. I want to be healthy and prepared for the inevitable "life change" approaching some time in the next decade.
You sound like a fun bunch!

Good morning Peach-
I think your story could be any one of us here on the board.

"Make Choices that bring you joy" cl-Patty
No matter what eating plan you choose, the way to shed pounds is to take in less than you use up. Making better food choices and exercising are a great combination for doing both, and the exercise will help lower blood pressure, strengthen your heart, build muscle tissues that use more energy even when you're sitting at the computer, and stems bone loss or even helps reverse it (esp. when you add weight work) - all beneficial for the perimenopausal years facing us. Exercise? Yep, find something you like. A number of our members take or teach classes; others, like me, use tapes at home and add something like walking, hiking, biking or running into our routine.
Hope to see you post here often. We're here to support you every step of the way.

I'm in about the same boat as you! I've got twenty to lose and I'm up and down but never reaching that *number* that I think I should be at.
Stick around here with us! It's a great group, full of encouragement and comraderie (sp?). There's also a wealth of info around here!
Look forward to getting to know you!

We have tons of fun on this board and we're all "family". Glad you've joined us. Congrats on deciding to focus on you! Ask questions, post along with us, and enjoy the ride.
Susan <-but folks here call me Sassy...for reasons completely unknown to me :)
Hello, Peach and welcome to the board! It is nice to have you join our group.
You have made the right first step in going to the doctor and seeking advice from a nutritionist. We here at the board are looking at becoming fit and healthy and not really dieting just to look good. So...you are going to fit right in. I think you will have some great tips for us after your appointments.
My biggest thing to pass on to you? Take it one day at a time and change only one thing at a time so you don't find your new lifestyle too overwhelming.
Hope to see more of you here...Thanks for sharing your story.
