Thanks for asking Phyllis. Yes, I'm alive. I survived!!!
Woke up at 6:30 am to Adam saying, "Well, I guess we won't be having the party outside. It was grey and overcast!! Boo! Hiss! Checked the weather forecast and it called 40% chance of showers. The wind started getting up, but I wasn't deterred. I set everything up outside (except for the crepe paper decorations, plus put some up inside just in case and put it in God's hands. "Thank you God"! Just as everyone started arriving, it brightened up and warmed up, (still not hot, but actually very pleasant). We did not feel a single raindrop. I had lots of spare hands. My dh, dd and Ray's cousin who has a lot of experience with children from doing the DARE programs with the RCMP up here. We had just the right amount of stuff organized for the kids and when the parents arrived to pick them up, most of them weren't ready to leave! So, I guess I would have to say that it was a *huge* success!! Even the neighbour lady I'd warned about the banshees came out on her deck to enjoy the kids having balloon sword fights. I could hear her laughing from inside our house!!!
The turtle pinata was a howl! Not having made one before, I didn't know how it would stand up. I didn't know if I'd put enough layers of paper on, or too much! So I limited everyone to three blindfolded whacks. Then we ditched the blindfold and everyone got three unblindfolded hits. About halfway through, the poor thing lost a leg, then an arm, then the only girl there swat it, and it exploded with candy and toys!! Girlpower!!! LOL
DD and DC cleaned up most of the mess as the parents were picking up the children. We sat and had a glass of wine, then headed for the shopping mall (dd, dc and I). Dh and my oldest ds volunteered to babysit. OMG!! DC is a power shopper. I always thought I could keep up with the best of them, but this girl puts me to shame. I did purchase a nice lightweight jacket/shell in a soft celery green with a bit of beige trim from Eddie Bauer and a nice t-shirt in the same colour.
I had some very deep thoughts about birthday parties this morning as I was setting things up. My father died in a motor vehicle accident the day before my 7th birthday. My mother had a party for me a day or two afterwards so that I wouldn't be disappointed (actually I think my sister, who was 17 organized it), and my father's funeral was the next day. It's funny how I'd never really thought of it before, but I can't help but wonder if that's why I dread birthday parties at our house so much!! Maybe deep down in side I've always related the two.
And on that *far* too intense train of thought.....
To sum it up, my feet are killing me, I'm having yet another glass of wine to unwind and I'm sure I'll be sleeping like a log tonight. And the bonus is, except for a few cheese puffs this afternoon, my eating has been awesome today!!! The only thing I regret is not clipping on my pedometer at the beginning of it all!

Interesting thoughts about your past and the feelings you have now. I'm sure it all ties in.
