Feeling pretty good today! I knocked off only 3 things on my To-Do list from yesterday, but they were 3 big ones (finishing the laundry, vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms), plus I did a few extras not on the list. It's working down to phone calls and a few things that I'll tackle after Memorial Day. I woke up with The Cus-man so that I could get my run in while it was still between 72 and 75-degrees (no sun yet, but still uncomfortably humid). About 3.5 miles, done in a little over 35 minutes. Made it up Big Hill without slowing to a walk, though it was a slow run!
Allison's little friend is here, and after lunch we'll be heading to the pool. Nice day for it. Later tonight, dinner at choir, plus May birthday party - since I'm one of the May birthdays, I think I'll have some cake :^).
While running this morning, I had a battle of wills with a sizeable dog, smaller than a mastiff, but had that look to him. Our n'hood is fairly dog secure - no loose dogs are allowed, either fence 'em in or use an electric fence - but Meanie came out of his driveway and followed me about 10-20 feet into the street, barking and snarling the whole time. It really set off my inner alarms - I had to turn to face him to get him to stop charging at me, walk backwards slowly so I could keep my eyes on him, and told him sternly to go back home. Meanie lost interest as I edged away, but I made a note of the address. About a block away, I warned a walker who was walking her own dog - I feared a dogfight for this woman. She was familiar with Meanie, said it barked at her dog whenever she walked it, and apparently she was a neighbor of Meanie's owners. When I got home, I called Meanie's owners and got ahold of the woman of the house. She asked "Are you calling about our dog?" "Yes." "My neighbor has already called to let me know." They have an electric fence, but the battery in Meanie's collar was depleted - she replaced it as soon as her neighbor called. She was very apologetic about the incident, and was truly sincere about it. I appreciate her attention to the matter, but I shudder to think what would've happened if the dog had kept coming.
I know there are dog owners on this board, but I gotta vent. Why do people own nasty dogs - in breed, temperament, trained to be such or not trained to be otherwise - in a neighborhood where people walk and children play? I'm very tired of hearing owners of snarling, barking dogs say that their darling pooches are really "sweet dogs who wouldn't hurt a fly". Yeah right. My BIL's dog was "sweet" yet it snapped at Allison - not a deep bite but it still broke the skin on her arm - and later lunged at her with intent to maul (both times the dog was on a short leash). Then there's the dog I ran into today, and countless times in years past where dogs have chased me and my friends on bikes when we were kids, scaring us half to death. I'm no longer attempting to like dogs in general. There is no reason for dogs to threaten passersby. Put muzzles on the damn things so that kids, residents, and meter readers and mail carriers feel safe, or keep 'em inside. Home insurers are starting to take note - a number of them are raising insurance premiums on dog owners because of the number of dog bite injuries that have been reported. I can like dogs one-on-one such as the dogs who live on either side of us, but for the most part neighborhoods would be safer, a lot quieter, and our yards cleaner if we shipped 'em all to an island somewhere. Grumble. I hope the dog owners on this board do indeed have sweet dogs that are truly part of the family and live to love people, not snarl and threaten them.
Glad you are feeling good today Patty and your hormones are cooperating. Hope you got in your run.
I just ordered 2 pairs of Betulas made by Christian Birkenstock from HSN. I hope they are comfortable. I have a pair of Bass knockoffs and wore them out, so I am hoping these would work for me with these pitiful feet
That is good news about Claudea. It is so hard to see a child be so sick. My older dd only gained 9 lbs her first year of life from being constantly sick with ear infections. She was only 17 lbs at a year...good thing she had an 8 lb birth weight.
Sometimes it feels like there is a revolving door with teenagers in the house. But, they will always come home with a fridge full in the house...LOL. Sometimes a break is good.
I am so glad we have someone do our lawn for $25 a week. DH bought a lawnmower that was tough to use after our snapper died and I stopped doing it. Funny how fast he hires someone once I stoppe doing it.
It is nice to get rain after planting and to know everything will take with a good watering. Enjoy your class this afternoon. Hope the AF symptoms disappear.
Hi, Shar...wish I knew about the birkenstock site before I ordered the 2 pairs of Betulas from HSN. I am anxious to get them and get rid of everything that hurts.
Hope you get your walk in.
What is tzatziki? Sounds like something I should know what it is. Now I am in the mood for hummus...might have to make some.
I am afraid of dogs no matter what their temperament. I got bit as a kid and it stayed with me and I would bet money it was a pitbull. When I am in someone's home with a dog and I know it is an OK dog, I can tolerate it. But, the dogs know it and hang around me the whole time. I beg the dog not to lick me...and I am looked at like a monster by the owners. I can't help it...that is the way I am. My poor kids never had
Tzatziki is thinly sliced or chopped cucumber in a sour cream/yogurt/dill sauce. Very soothing and cooling in hot weather. Put it on crackers or use for a veggie dip; also goo, believe it or not, as a dip for canteloupe. Rhonda posted a nice SBD-friendly version somewhere here today. I think under the Pampered Chefs thread. My jar from Costco is not SBD-friendly, thus my reference to it as a treat. I put it on a RyKrisp light rye cracker and savor it....
