This is a 2-part story from the Boston Globe about the tragedy and aftermath of a family losing their youngest member - a 4-year-old daughter - in a terrible accident. I wanted to share it with you not only for how beautifully it's written, but to share this little girl's spirit, the deep grief of her family, and also how her family is picking up the pieces of their lives, haltingly, but surely. I hope you can access both parts. Have a big box of tissue nearby.

One box of tissues is not enough. What got to me the most is when they said that only an hour before she had been dancing.I had a hard time getting thru this but am glad I did.

Thanks for posting, Donna.

Wow Donna, I really am not sure what to say. I guess having a "sick" child makes me think of these things more often then most. Regardless the loss of a child is a horrible thing to have to go through. My thoughts are with that strong family. I had to walk away while reading and come back later to finish. Truely a touching story, thanks for sharing.

What a touching article. I can't imagine a pain that goes deeper than the loss of your child. Two of my sisters have had to live through that experience. One's sister's marriage survived the other marriage didn't. Truly makes you think how in the blink of an eye your life and family can be changed forever.

A tragically moving story, Donna. I can't imagine how people survive such things and hope I never have to find out. How wonderful that they've been able to use their personal tragedy to help other people deal with theirs.
Thanks for sharing.

Oh, man, that's a sniffler. No icon in the iVillage list for a tissue box.

Though I'm a woman with a growing faith, the loss of a child is unfathomable. Like the writer said, chronologically it's just totally backwards. I have no idea how I'd react, carry on, or if my faith is even strong enough. I pray that first of all, God would spare our family from this kind of tragedy, that He has a plan for Allison's life that goes beyond her childhood; second, that if such should occur, that He would somehow sustain me, somehow keep my face towards Him. I don't even want to think about it.
