Dubious nutritional info!

This is what happens when I think too much. Last night I was considering the benefits of giving up beer, wine, gin & tonics for all but one day during the week. I know those are empty calories I'm no longer consuming, but what about fat and carbs? Well, no fat in any of them. Carbs are minimal in beer, less in wine, and non-existant in spirits like gin, rum, whiskey. So does that make 'em a low-fat, low-carb healthy food? LOL! And some say calories don't count - in this instance, that's what does.
I probably sound like a case for AA! I enjoy beer or wine with dinner, though it's not regular. Occasionally, I like the rum & coke, gin & tonic or Old Fashioned on a weekend. I figure if it's not regular indulgence and I don't miss it, I'm okay. But here's what's funny: my MIL had me pick some gin from the liquor store for her before our previous visit. The Cus joked that his mom probably didn't want to be seen buying liquor herself (she and her late husband enjoyed a daily drink, though she's gotten away from that on her own). Of course, I had to tease her when I presented it to her, saying "I'm covering up for my MIL, the lush!" She laughed. We have fun: This is the same woman who tried to "do away with the evil DIL" last year while I was standing ankle deep in the pool and MIL was blowing leaves off the deck. Unbeknownst to either of us, the cord of the blower had dropped into the pool - right where it joined the extension cord! I noticed it and hollered. She was aghast as well. Fortunately, it tripped the circuit breaker, avoiding any disaster. While we still wipe our brows thinking about that, it's sure been good for a family joke.
