Hey everyone. Its going to take me forever to read this past weeks posts. I just wanted to let you know we made it back safe and sound. I am cutting and pasting part of an email that I sent to my girl friend filling you in about our road trip..............

We just got home from our road trip this morning. I slept several hours in the car so I stayed awake. Bill is upstairs sleeping for several hours in the AC. The darn dog shed so much hair its gross. I am going to unpack, get some laundry going, wash the kitchen floor (it needed it before we left last week), vacume and then take a shower. We left last Sunday and we raced in Englishtown, NJ. We drove from there to Morgantown, PA and stayed the night. We continued onto Bristol, TN on Monday morning arond 10:00. We hit such heavy rain. But we arrived at the track around 8:00 that night, from there we had dinner and found our hotel. Got up and we were online to enter the track around 8:30. Once we got in we proceeded to set up, and organize ourselves. We had to tech both cars in with the officals and that took about 2 1/2 hours. By the time we got done with what needed to get done we were exhausted. One of our friends showed up around 7 and then we proceeded to help him set up. Thus began our racing week. Kids raced on Wednesday but were both knocked out second round. Thursday we did some test runs and then Friday they began eliminations. Unfortunatly both Rob and Katie got knocked out first round. They were disappointed but they know its part of the sport. There were aprox 750 cars there. We did have some fantastic news. While the kids cars were at the tech (that is the inspection by the NHRA officals, they go over every inch of the cars to make sure it meets "ALL" the requirements) the guy who did ours made several wonderful comments about Robbie's new car. Well the next day he was back "checking" out hus car again while we were waiting to run. Later he sent another official over to look at the car. The second gentlemen who was looking at the car was asking Bill tons of questions. Both guys asked us where we were pitted. On Friday morning they both show up again asking questions, reviewing the car, and we were like "something is up". We knew were within the standards so we knew he must have been in the running for one of several special awards that the race hands out. About an hour later the gentlemen who was running the entire event came over asked for Bill and Robbie and he congratulated Robbie on having the "BEST ENGINEERED CAR", the kids was on cloud nine. Well so were his parents. Bill and Rob have been working nonstop on this car since March and it paid off. Out of 750 cars Robbie's car was picked. What a wonderful honor. We packed our stuff on Friday night but left our trailer at the track. We returned Saturday morning to watch and cheer some of our friends on and we left around 3:00 that afternoon. Bill drove until midnight, and we stopped at the Maryland House on I95. We reclined the seats and went to sleep for about 4 hours. We woke up about 4 and got back on the road. We pulled into our driveway around 8. Katie went with friends of ours, who live upstate NY. She and Michael begged us to let them stay together. His mom stays home and had no problem with it. So she left with them and we will see her next Saturday when we meet for racing. Should she want to come home early she is only about 3 hours upstate, and Bill would go get her. We shall see how the week plays out.

Welcome back, Deb (and family!) --

Sounds like a hectic vacation! But even with the disappointments, a very satisfying one for Robbie and Bill. I'll be nice if some good things come out of it for Bill's work. Hope Katie has another fun vacation week....

Looking forward to seeing you posting again!

Welcome home! Sorry to hear that your kids didn't make the cut-offs on their races, but that's awesome about the best engineered car. What a crew you have!!
