Katie went to the ER today!

What a day. Started my new job with Tom. The morning went well untill I got a frantic call from Bill. He had just talked with Katie and Michaels mom. Apparently Katie had gotten bitten by their dog. Simon, a 160 pound Rottweiller. She got Katie on the leg and the stomach and Michaels mom rushed Katie to the emergency room. I flew home and changed into my short and called Mikes mom on her cell. She had just carried Katie into the ER and she let me talk to the doctor in charge. I explained Katie's heart history, medication situation, and no allergies. She then said it was pretty bad and she needed to treat Katie and assured me she was going to be fine. Bill and I drove what is normally a 3 hour drive, in just little over an hour. Michaels mom called us after an hour to say that they treated Katie, no stitches and they released her to come home. She took Katie home to her house where we drove to. Katie was sitting there is this hospital gown, they washed and cleaned out her stomach and knee, put antibiotic ointment on her wounds, and then put clean dressings on them. Apparently they do not stitch animal bites, because if it should be or get infected they do not want to seal the infection in. Katie also got these huge scratches on her back but failed to tell the doctors and they failed to see them. She told me when I got there and she showed them to me. They look like she had been clawed by a bear. I proceeded to clean them out and cover them. They prescribed an antibiotic, which we filled there and got a dose into her system. We drove home around 5 and she slept for about an hour and a half. She is watching TV with her big brother right now and I am going to get her into bed in a little while. I will call her doc in the morning and get her into them so that they can examine her bites and scratches. What a frightening situation. Michaels parents were so upset and Michael pulled Katie away from the dog, I can only imagine what could have been.
Cussette talked about Allison's fears a few weeks ago, and I defended the dog owners point of view. For that I am truely sorry, now being on the other side of the fence. Katie said she will not be so trusting anymore with strange dogs. What a way to learn a lesson. I will fill you in with how she is tomorrow after I see her doctor. Just say a prayer for her that she heals quickly and she does not scare badly. She already had the scar down her chest she deals with.

My youngest daughter got bit on her upper arm by our neighbor's Rott when she was about 10 years old. Fortunately it wasn't all that bad. The doc told me that they couldn't stitch her would because it was jagged injury. She is still terrified of large dogs but believe or not she loves pit bulls, which we used to raise.
The strange thing is when I was a kid I got bit by a toy manchester and I'm afraid of little bitty hairless dogs. That dog didn't just chop down it chewed my whole finger up, it sounds funny now but then it scared me to death then.
I will say a special prayer that God blesses Katie with a speedy & healthy recovery. Please keep us informed on how she's doing. You take care of yourself too, a tragidy like this can really take an emotional toll on a person.
May God bless, protect, & heal Katie, and may he give you the strength & comfort to help you through this.
Deb, I'm so sorry to hear about Katie, and I know you had to have been just mortified not knowing exactly what the situation was until you could get to her. I was there when my daughter was bitten on the chin by a dachshund as a toddler, and was totally panicked when I saw the blood. Sure hope and pray that she heals well without scarring and won't have lingering fears from it.
We had a 150-lb. 1/2 Rottweiler/1/2 Great Dane. Fortunately, the Great Dane personality was dominant.
