Meant to share - update on my Dad

This is following up on my Dad's "silent" heart attack that he apparently had in the last year. He had in depth stress tests at the end of June (including running the dye through his system) and the docs concluded that he had blockages: one artery 90% blocked, another 100%. On Friday, July 9th, he went in for catheterization (however you spell it). They were able to clear the 90% blockage and put a stent in. The 100% blockage remained blocked... but the fully functioning artery had found a path through a lesser blood vessel to bypass it, and it handles enough blood to where the doctors aren't worried about it at all. A naturally formed bypass - is that not the hand of God?! The procedure he had done was non-invasive, and no surgery needed. Docs have given him the okay to go to Bolivia this year and the Himilayas next year as he's planned.

Your dad is a lucky man indeed, with the conditions you describe. Glad to hear that a skilled human hand was able to fix one blockage and the hand of God took care of the worst.

OK - so is he going to jog thru the Himalayas, or just take a leisurely stroll? Has he been cleared to resume running or have the docs advised him to do something less strenuous?

Good news, Linda! Thanks for the update...

Wonderful news about your dad! I'm really happy and relieved for all your family. It's tough with a close family member has a serious health issue.

Sort of a cross between stroll and jog! No, his primary doc urged him to give up running because "it was too hard on his knees". He wasn't running very far, and he hadn't run in nearly 50 years (he lettered in track in high school), and he is slightly arthritic. He was running to get his cardiovascular stamina up, but dropped back to brisk walking. I'm sure his Himilaya trip has something to do with birding, so he'll be doing a lot of high altitude walking and ascending (not rock climbing!).

Glad to hear your dad is doing well. My MIL had the same thing and the 100% artie made its own way. Its amazing how our bodies can adapt. I would guess he will be in touch with this doctor on a regular basis from now on?
