I'm new, obviously. I'm wondering how you all choke down salmon and oatmeal for breakfast. These are 2 foods I have avoided all my life. Salmon because of its fishyness and oatmeal because of it's slimyness. How do you all face these two things for breakfast without barfing.

Hi there and welcome to our board. I avoid them both at all cost.....lol. Well the salmon I do eat but only sometimes and that is only at dinner time. The oatmeal never was a biggie for me, so I just do not eat it. What kind of diet are you on? Having salmon in the morning is very unusual.

Hi and Welcome!

Never thought of having salmon for breakfast but I will say that I am a fish eater and I don't have it enough because the majority of the family doesn't like fish. As far as oatmeal goes I enjoy oatmeal and I usually add just a bit of skim milk, throw some raisins in and swirl in some peanut butter and add some crushed up walnuts for some crunch. But that's me and I'm sure there's plenty of people who don't like oatmeal. There's plenty of good for you things to eat that don't have to include those two items! Hope you stick around here and you'll find lots of ideas, suggestions, motivation and just a wonderful group of women!

Salmon and oatmeal for breakfast?! I enjoy seafood and I've seen fish breakfasts before, but that sounds like a great way to get nauseated to me! LOL! I do oatmeal, though not in the middle of summer in the southeast. I'm curious: What kind of plan are you looking at that calls for that... and what kind of plan doesn't give other options? I'm asking because there are dozens of other healthy choices including fruits & melons, eggs (or egg substitute), bran and bran derivative cereals, whole wheat breads and muffins, veggie sausage patties, or if you do desire something warm, grits and wheat cereal. I think I'd look into a more palatable plan ;^).

I like scrambled eggs with some smoked salmon mixed in for breakfast (although I'm not eating it at the moment because I have reduced eggs in my diet), but I don't know how that would fit with your plan.

Texture is funny: you find oatmeal slimy while I find it luscious. Conversely I find the texture of peanut butter and bananas disgusting.

Salmon for breakfast sounds like The Wrinkle Cure Diet by Dr. Perricone. He'd have you eat salmon for every meal, I believe. I had some smoked salmon for breakfast a couple of times, but it got old really fast. It's also expensive.

I've never been a big oatmeal fan, but when I started using McCann's Irish Steelcut Oats and put walnuts, raisins, and cinnamon in it, it was almost like dessert. I made 4 servings at a time and split it up into smaller containers, so I could just pop it in the microwave when I wanted it.

Welcome, I'm a fairly newby too. I have really enjoyed this site. There's a lot of knowledge, experience, and support here.

Fish for breakfast, YUK, I guess that is a good way to loose weight at least for me since I'm not much of a fish eater. I do like oatmeal though. I also prefer it with butter & suger. Now I get the flavored instant single serving packs. There's one for womem that is vanilla flavored that is really good. I'm picky about how it's cooked, I don't like to thick & lumpy, or to runny & syrupy.

Glad to have you here. Good luck with what ever plan you are on.

I thought that my dad and I were the only ones who ate oatmeal with butter and sugar.
