Trouble spots that is.Researchers tested 14 men and women after they drank 16 ounces of water. After 40 minutes their average calorie burning rate was 30% higher and it stayed that way for more than an hour. They calculate that drinking eight 8ounce glasses of water a day could burn off almost 35,000 claoried a year, about 10 pounds.Cool water works best because part of the increased calorie burn is from the body warming the liquid to body temp.I'll drink to that!

Thanks Patty, I drink water all day long. Its become such a habit from years ago. Occasionally I will reach for a soda. But other then my morning tea its water the rest of the day.

Some interesting water articles:

WebMD Feb 2004 on how much water

WebMD April 2001 on some water "myths"

At the same time there are other articles on WebMD that espouse the traditional views (some have been superceded).

About.com on water and calorie burning, but not overdoing it (Phyllis, I know you're just having fun, but apparently there are people who think that way!)

About.com on Hyponatremia - read also the related article. Both articles here question the "Drink before you're thirsty" rather than using thirst as an indicator, especially on higher activity levels on hot days. Both give a little more info on why you might need more than just water, too.

The guide I like best (for now, LOL!) is on About.com, a hydration guide for walkers, mentioning the new suggestions on hydration that came out in 2003.

Looks like moderation wins again...?
