Could someone please call and check the temperature?? I never thought this would happen in MA, but apparently our State Legislature approved this months ago, and Saturday's the day. I wonder why it wasn't trumpeted loudly long before today.

Peer pressure! The bright folks in the legislature probably realized that residents were crossing state lines to buy elsewhere.

Take advantage of it. In NY state we get 2 weeks a year of tax free for clothes and shoes. one just before school in August and another in mid-January. Maybe your state will follow this eventually. NY state started this about maybe 6 years ago. AMC

We don't pay taxes on clothing or shoes; maybe on "luxury" items of clothing over a certain value, but we don't pay sales tax on the usual day-to-day clothing items people need. It'll help parents with supplies for back-to-school, maybe things like computers, dorm furnishings, and similar items. We get socked with state income tax and property taxes. That's why I look at this as kind of a puny give-back that was easy for the legislators to approve and look like heroes. Unless you're buying a big-ticket item like a major appliance, your tax savings isn't going to amount to much. And if I have to spend a ton of money to take advantage of it, where does that get me? Knock on wood, all my appliances are in proper working order, the computer is fairly new, etc. All I can think of buying right now is new towels! If I get a brainstorm and end up buying out the stores, I'll let you all know.

We don't have a state income tax, but we do pay tax on clothes and shoes. It varies from county to county. It's 7% here. We got a break on clothing items under $50. and school supplies under $10. a week or so ago. We're gettin $.08 a gallon off gas (tax) for the month of August. I think some stations aren't passing it on.
