I'm upset

I was planning to run a race on Thanksgiving day called the Turkey Trot. I've started training slowly first walking a few miles every night and using the threadmill. I've been searching the internet for a program to get me ready for this about 3 mile race. Any one have any info on any running programs i would appreciated it.
Well my problem is that my dh has told his cousins who are runners I was going to run in the Turkey Trot. He thought it would motivate me to run if other people knew I was running. I wanted to do this privately and didn't want anyone to know. I haven't ran a race since high school and I'm still very overweight. I was just going to go and run and not have anyone know just in case I could not do it. AC

Time invested in improving ourselves cuts down on time disapproving of others.

I know how it feels when you want something to be kept private...and someone spills the beans.

He might have just shared the info with his cousins because he was proud of you.

Yeah, your DH should've checked with you first. OTOH, I think he might be proud of you for considering this and hoped his efforts would help. Make it clear that if you pursue this, you're not going to "run with anybody" but that your goal is to complete the race at your own pace.
We've got Turkey Trots in our area too. I'm usually out of town for T'giving, but I might look into one at MILs. I regularly run 3-4 miles, and enter 5 mile races. When I started running, I'd already been working out at home for 4+ months, including strength training. So I alternated 5 minutes of slow running with 2-3 minutes of walking, and gradually eliminated the walking. Still, I did too much too fast and dealt with all kinds of aches and pains (all reported here, LOL!). I still have a hip strain that I got in the last week of October 2003 that is ever-so-slowly working its way out, and fortunately doesn't get in the way of running. This year has been MUCH better because I've been pacing myself, I completed a race with no pain whatsoever.
Here are some links that might help:
In fact Runner's World has numerous training guides to pick and choose. Hope you can find something to use in all that!

I do wish I would've started out slower. You tried to reign me in, I remember! Live and learn - I wanted results faster than my body was ready to give.
