If her 105-lb body is also 25, not pre-menopausal, and medication-free, I'd want to smack her, too.

Turn on your filter, lady! Think of all the things you said - about working out even while you've not felt well, and about eating healthier choices even when you'd rather not. You've already made the healthier lifestyle choice, as opposed to the short-term diet, and the benefits will kick in with tweaking.

Hugs, Lori! Don't let that comment ruin your day, or your outlook!

Well said, Donna! I could stand to lose 30 lbs. and no one is more aware of it than I am, so hope that makes you feel a little better Lori.

We can probably all remember when we didn't have to be so diet conscious, or if we did, we could rapidly get rid of 5 lbs. I never understood until I got older how large a part hormones, metabolism, stress, etc., all play such a huge part in how your body produces and stores fat.

Don't let this get you down after all the good things you've been doing.

Hugs,

Rhonda

Lori, I'm in the same boat - gained back 10 of the lbs. I lost on Somercise & I had wanted to lose 10 more back then! Don't want to go back to THAT plan at all (I was sick of meat!) & if I stick with Weight Watcher's plan, I lose it; but lately, I haven't felt inclined to stick with anything. Truly, it's more difficult to maintain than lose the weight. Anyway, I really believe that hormones & stress have influenced my eating & lack of activity lately. I had to call my doc to have my pill presciption changed so I hope that helps my hormones. Getting rid of stress is another matter!

Don't let what that doctor said get you down. I get the same treatment when I go to the doctor & I just let it go in & out. I know I'm a work in progress & I do have setbacks (like dealing with the fact that my kid has bulging discs in his back & a dent someone put on my hood backing up into my car while I was working my 2nd job - hit & run). Ah, but these things should not get me down to the point where I totally give up. I won't & I know you won't either.

Just keep working out and eating as healthy as possible - it will make a difference as Donna posted. Slow weight loss is the best kind because we are actually changing our eating habits for lifetime success. I decided to post my menus & points on WW board today, so having my car banged up is not going to influence me or get me down. I just learned that WW has a new plan as an alternative, called the "Core Plan" which is just eating healthy - no counting points unless you dip outside the core foods.

No big fat boots from me, just encouragement. You are doing just fine, keep it up!

Hugs,

Kat

Oh well if that's all there is to it why doesn't everyone just go online pick out a diet and lose weight!!!Sheesh!!!!!How irresponsibile of her.First that are some lousy diets out there and people shouldn't be on them.As a doctor she should have given you a better guideline to follow. And also as YOUR dr she knows just what a rough time you've had lately. When you're in there sick, asking you to take on a diet seems a bit much. How about she said "why don't you come back in a couple weeks and let's look at ways to approach this".

You should be feeling good about yourself!!Sounds to me like you've been working at things, giving it some thought and finding what works for you.Losing weight shouldn't always be the only goal we reach for.I think you've been thru alot lately Lori and I'm proud of you and how you keep going. You find ways to approach the problems, you don't give up and you do it with humor. I love that.I learn alot from you.

You should never feel like a failure.I would never use that word with you.

Glad you vented. That's what we're here for.

I'm gonna agree with everyone else here. You're taking care of yourself better than a vast majority of women. If she's that bent on it, she ought to give you some direction. Surely she knows you do regular fitness activities...? That's hardly failing.

Tell her to go smoke a cigarette and chill. ;^)

There will be no boot in you butt from me. You are doing good positive things for yourself and that doctor had no right to tell you to "go online and pick out a diet". I don't know how you didn't slap her. I want to go and slap her for you. Can you tell I am steaming here!!! She was definitely unprofessional with her "advice".

You have a lot going on physically and mentally (stress) and it all comes out with the inability to loose weight. You would think the doc would know that. I hear women all the time say they can't loose weight with the medications they are on, even at WW meetings.

Diets don't work. We all found that out the hard way. You are not a failure.

Try to think of the positives and the positive people in your life. Keep up with the exercise that you like and get strong in body and mind. You are well on your way!!!

Feel good HUGS!!!

What kind of doctor tells you to get help from the internet!! Most doctors would refer you to a nurtritionist. I know when I get upset it makes me want to give up. Keep up your spirits and don't get down. AC

Here's my theory on weight gain with age: "My bones are beginning to petrify so they naturally weigh more." (roflmbo) I know that's not true but it makes me feel a little better.

I agree that the doc should have given you some suggeestions and been more compassionate with you. Everyone knows that diets are only a temporary fix, its a life style change that works long term. It sounds like you have done everything humanly possible. Don't let all the hard work and efforts you have done be spoiled by one person's opinion. As long as you feel good about yourself, that is what really counts.

I need to loose about 40 lbs to be at my "ideal body weight". I will be happy to drop 20 lbs and keep it off. Maybe we can try to do it together. Since I started visiting this board I have managed to drop about 10 lbs. I think I've reached another plateau and need some motivation to work a little harder. Well I guess I had better get up and do something. I don't think typing uses very many calories. (LOL)

Take care of yourself and be happy. Keep up the good work. Be proud of what you have accomplished.
