Is the Moon Full all over the World.

Did you ladies know that when there's a full moon it is full all over the world at the same time? It was a topic on the radio yesterday and the DJ called some national observatory to ask if it was true. The person at the observatory's response was "Duh", the DJ said so I take that as a yes. After I thought about it a little deeper it made since, the sun is the same all over the world so the moon would be too.

I asked DH and he disagreed. Then when I explained it in comparison with the sun he believed me. Oh well just thought it was interesting.

Astronomy is one of those things I could get into if I had the time and money for good equipment - it fascinates me. It makes sense that it's a full moon all over, because that's relative to the positions of the earth, moon & sun. ...OTOH, lunar and solar eclipses are more specific because that's dependent as to where you are located on the globe, I think. Interesting.

Yes, I knew that. Where it rises and sets in the sky and its position in between will vary depending upon your location, but its phase is the same. It has been gorgeous the last couple of nights, and I noticed when Rob left for school this morning there's an extremely bright planet that looks huge. I had heard Mars is supposed to be big now, but I didn't notice a pinkish/reddish cast to any of the ones I could see. This one looked like a diamond!

I actually got to see mars either last year or the year before. I even got a picture but you would have to know what the reddish orange dot in the sky was. I grew up in Ohio and have been in Texas for the past 20 years. The solar systems are different, we get a lot of metior showers down here usually in August but you have to stay up late to see them.

I remember seeing Mars a lot a while back, so I'm thinking maybe the email that went around was an old one. Here, it was distinctly pinkish or light red, but Venus was still much larger and more visible. Wish I knew which one is so bright and beautiful now in the early morning sky. I'll have to try to look it up.
