Self has an article this month called Finding Your Happy Weight. It's a good article that makes you realize just how much time is spent, or wasted, looking for that magic number on the scale.Did you know that 86% of women postpone something ( dating, shopping, sex) til they are at that magic number. And only 18% consider their weight to be just right. It talks about how too often that magic number is one from out past like our teenage years. The article encourages women to focus instead on their health, the things they like about their bodies and enjoying life to the fullest so that you're too busy to obsess about your butt!

Along this line of thought, I was talking to a friend yesterday who had just weighed in at WW, and was at an "all time" low since she had started - 143. She is only about 5'1" or so, and I think she looks great. She has lost 25 pounds. Now, on the other hand, when I stepped on the scale three days ago, I was at an all time high, except for pregnancy. I am 5'3 1/2". Then I thought about how the last time I was at 143, my spouse harassed me about being so "fat" I think I was a size 10 at the time, and he wanted me to be a size 6. I am now a 14. Thing is, I am no longer obsessing about food and my weight all the time, and last spring (yes, 5-10 pounds ago) when I was working out regularly, I felt healthier than I had in years. So, I am glad that I decided to quit postpoing anything because I was too fat. Life is far too short to not be enjoyed to it's fullest every day.

(Now if I could only lose 30 pounds...)

The article touches on other peoples comments and thoughts about our size.Incredible that someone called you fat at a size 10!!!!!I have a picture from a magazine of a woman I think has an incredible body. When I showed it to some others they all commented that they thought she was too heavy.Weird how I look at that woman in the photo so less critically than I do myself. This summer I think my perspective on my body has changed because of my running.I focus more on what it's capable of that what size it is.

(Now if only my chest would grow.........)

Patti, while I agree with what you posted my ideal weight is something that is comfortable. If we do not think about it I feel the scale will slowly creep up. I seem to be at a platue for my age. The magic number seems to hover around 140 to 143. My clothes however are too snug, and I feel uncomfortable. Not a good thing. I realize I will never be a size 7 again but I would love to be a 10. Right now I am not proud of saying I wear a size 14. Not happy at all.

As soon as I say I can't have a food I want it. It becomes an obsession for me!!!

Kinda like George. If I could actually have him I'd probably never want him.Wait, maybe I've taken this too far......

I think I'd rather find the happy image in the mirror (I'm still searching for it). If men don't obsess about weight, why should I?

I agree about the food thing - when I can't have something, I want it. I think moderation is important, although if I had to pick one food group to eat more of to be healthy it would have to be vegetables. Some days I want too many carbs & some of them are white ones like Italian bread. That is my weakness, I'll admit. Lately, I've quit craving sweets and moved on to Italian food - good grief!

Many books have been written about lowering portions as we get older. If one works out enough, one shouldn't have to go on a starvation diet, though. Some health foods I enjoy, and I'll have to agree with Booty on some of that fake stuff. The chemicals just manage to upset stomachs and systems & they don't taste good. I can't stomach that sugar free AND fat free ice cream or other sweets - it must be the replacement products they use. Yuck!

I can see where attitude and not obsessing about weight is good advice... to a point.
