Friday Check-in

How did everyone's day go? What miracles did you observe today? What workout did you do today? How was your eating? Anything particularly yummy or healthy you ate and wanted to tell us about? Did someone do something nice for you today...for no reason other than to do something nice?

I had a traumatic day...freshman orientation for my oldest. Man, if you want a reality check...go to freshman orientation with your oldest child. I met a group of neighborhood friends at Starbucks beforehand (all of our darlings were waiting for the bus...no way were they riding in with mom!). We sipped our coffees and lattes and talked about how we all met and about our little darlings when they went off to kindergarten. Once I arrived at the high school (parent's had orientation, too), I found Shawn and had to get his attention from across the auditorium (of course I HAD too...you don't think I was going to resist the opportunity to embarrass him a bit, do you?). He was very stoic about it. He told me later today that he saw me several times throughout the morning, but didn't try to get my attention...go figure! He tried to ignore me in the hallway and I marched up to him and told him all about his German teacher, whom I had just met :) I love to give that boy a hard time. Anyway, it was a fun morning, but I've been sort of weepy all day. This, too, shall pass.

I had the best conversation with a neighbor who lived here for about 6 years and then they moved away for 2 years. Now they are back and it was fun reconnecting with her. We weren't friends, exactly, but we were friendly and always ran into each other at school things and pool things. I think it's a relationship I'm going to pursue. We had a blast talking and she told me about the first time we met (kindergarten orientation) and how embarrassed she was because she commented on my name (Susan Smith) and it was around the time the infamous Susan Smith was in the news. We actually talked like close friends. It was odd in one way and touching in another. Hard to describe. My point in bringing this up is because how many of us are so busy that we don't take the time to "connect" with our neighbors, keep in touch with friends (local and distant), speak to the person in line in front of or behind us, etc. I am sooooo guilty of using the "I'm too busy" excuse, or feeling shy, etc. My DH has never met a stranger. He talks to everyone. It used to irk me, then I envied him. Now I try to look for opportunities to speak with strangers, stop and talk with a neighbor, reconnect with a friend, drop a note or card in the mail, etc.

Enough rambling. Just my thoughts for the day.

Hope y'all had a great day.

Sassy

Wow, a husband who is social! You're very fortunate, Sassy! So Shawn didn't get embarrassed did he when you got his attention? What a sweet child! I don't look forward to high school with my ds. We are fortunate that our school begins high school at 10th grade. My ds is too immature to mix with the upperclassmen. Nice that you reconnected with the friend.

Well, I did well with the menus today and that's my miracle (LOL!) - 2 Go Lean Blueberry waffles for breakfast, soup, salad and a little bread for lunch, a few bites of pizza for dinner. Not much appetite because of the chill pills I imagine. Workout was UB/LB weights and abs work.

Hope to get cardio in tomorrow. I work all weekend but get Monday off.

I had an uneventful day - but then again, compared to getting baptized, most days will be uneventful. Wish I had more time to get outdoors to marvel at God's palette. Our fall foliage will begin in October (I'm hoping) and I'm looking forward to that. Almost time to buy the mums! Trades days & flea markets are always fun out here in the fall and the fall decorations are fully displayed in the stores. I'd love to go to Dallas on Monday, but I won't travel that far on a holiday. Too much traffic! I may go to Tyler, though, since they do have a Barnes & Noble and other stores we don't have.

Hope you all had a lovely day and have a glorious weekend!

I loved your rambling! That is so nice about reconnecting with the person you mentioned. And I think meeting with the group from the neighborhood sounded like fun. It's nice to be able to talk with people who are going thru the same experiences as you are, like raising kids especially teenagers!!!

I ran on my treadmill today and did an UB workout.I went uptown to go to the track this evening. It was a perfect fall like evening and I wanted to run.First I went to the bank where my neice works at the drive thru window. It's her birthday Sunday and they had a sign up for customers to honk as they went thru.Gotta love a small town. Then I went by Mom and Dads where I stayed longer than I planned to.By the time I hit the track I was almost out of time so I did a very short run.My leg was bothering me and I couldn't risk really hurting it.I have a shopping trip/lunch planned with my neice and sister tomorrow and have to be in top shape.I'm considering hitting VS tomorrow but you guys know how much trouble I have with the whole underwear bra thing.Do they make powerthongs?????

Guess I did the bulk of my check-in under the post about the hurricane. Some miraculous things around here would be that the storm has weakened a bit and probably won't hit us directly.
