1. Did you do anything special for your 16th birthday?

2. What do you put on the top of your Christmas tree?

3. What's probably the first cooler weather type of clothing you'll pull out?

4. Who can always make you laugh no matter how crabby you might feel?

5. Has there been a story in the news over the last few months that you felt was very inspiring? If so, what?

1. Did you do anything special for your 16th birthday?

***Believe it or not, I can't remember. I'm sure we had a little family party with a cake and gifts. Knowing the types of things I did back then, I probably celebrated at a community dance with friends.

2. What do you put on the top of your Christmas tree?

***Over the years we've had various angels, stars, and tall shiny ornaments. Last year we had a star again.

3. What's probably the first cooler weather type of clothing you'll pull out?

***Sweatshirts.

4. Who can always make you laugh no matter how crabby you might feel?

***I'm a sucker for the antics of small children and animals, but currently Miss Andie Bee (great niece) is the queen of making me laugh.

5. Has there been a story in the news over the last few months that you felt was very inspiring? If so, what?

***The first thing that comes to mind other than the obvious ones of our military is the young teenage girl in Hawaii whose arm was bitten off by a shark as she surfed. She was so calm, courageous, and positive -- way beyond her years. She has kept an amazing attitude and is back surfing. She's also taken up snowboarding.

1. Did you do anything special for your 16th birthday?

I can't remember exactly but I do know I got a pretty silver locket from my parents and that I did have the traditional corsage with sugar cubes as was the rage back in the day!

2. What do you put on the top of your Christmas tree?

We have an angel

3. What's probably the first cooler weather type of clothing you'll pull out?

Sweatshirts and sweats!

4. Who can always make you laugh no matter how crabby you might feel?

My daughter Laura

5. Has there been a story in the news over the last few months that you felt was very inspiring? If so, what? I can't tell you one specifically as I stay away from the news and the newspapers but I always come across magazine articles about inspiring people particularly ones that take a tragedy in their lives and turn it into a positive.

1. Did you do anything special for your 16th birthday? I had a sweet 16 birthday party at my house with several friends. Nothing like some of the kids do today.

2. What do you put on the top of your Christmas tree? An angel.

3. What's probably the first cooler weather type of clothing you'll pull out? My jeans.

4. Who can always make you laugh no matter how crabby you might feel? Its a toss between my father who is always joking around or my Robbie. He takes after my dad (his name sake) and he 99% of the time has a sunny disposition.

5. Has there been a story in the news over the last few months that you felt was very inspiring? If so, what? None that I can recall.

1. No. My birthday is Christmas Eve, so there had always been a lot of family preparations and celebration for a few days. I don't remember anything different, except more family members were still alive to enjoy the holidays and to help me celebrate.

2. A porcelain angel.

3. I already have - a suede jacket last weekend and earlier this week.

4. My niece and nephew. Either I call them, or I play the tape we made of their old voice messages. My favorite is them singing "Happy Anniversary" to DH and me two years ago. They finished the message blowing kisses and screaming into the phone "I love you a hundred billion million." How can you not smile at that?

5. A little more than a few months ago, but the blind man who climbed Mt. Everest inspired me. And the man who had to amputate his own hand after it was crushed when he slipped into a slot canyon - how cool-headed he was in realizing he had to sacrifice his hand for the chance at survival.

Thanks, Rhonda.

I had to smile myself when I read about your niece and nephew singing to you and screaming how much they love you. It's hard to resist the sweet voices of children. Andie sang the Barney song over the phone to me the other day, and her sweet, little voice had me laughing and watery-eyed at the same time.

I also thought about that young man who amputated his own arm. I don't know that I could do that. He was amazing.

Same reaction here. Remember our reactions to my niece's dance recital? Mommy, the 2 nanas, big sister, auntie and uncle, and our cousin sitting in a row, totally entranced by the performance, big goofy grins on our faces, and tears streaming down our cheeks. That happy/sad thing Nancy posted about - thrilled to see them growing and flying, sad to think of them grown and flown, and wishing we could stop time.

Too heavy...

My older sister and I did the same thing many years ago when my niece, Lauren, (Andie and Claudea's mother) put together a special dance number to do in honor of our family coming up from FL to see her perform in a festival up there. The little town's Village Green was filled with people having a good time, and there we were blubbering over her beautiful performance. When we saw each other, we burst out laughing -- only us!!!
