Sunday Musings....

Hi, all!

We have recovered nicely from the left-over Ivan downpours yesterday. Very lucky up here - no wind or flooding, but lots of H2O fell. Hope those of you in VA/SC/NC/AL/FL are recovering and getting back to normal (whatever passes for normal for you. LOL).

Lori, hope you're doing better today. I have your stuffy head/headache/runny nose. I'm hoping the headache is just weather related, but that hope is fading. I hate feeling lousy. Not sick enough to take to bed, pull up the covers and whine, and not sick enough to stay home from work tomorrow, but just off-kilter enough to be cranky about it. Ugh.

Despite the recurring downpours, we got to my sister's house yesterday and had a lovely birthday party for my mom. No meltdowns, no scenes, not even a fiery political discussion - my nephew was a bit under the weather and slept most of the afternoon, so we tried to keep the chatter low and he and my niece didn't harrass each other all afternoon, even when he woke from his power nap. Good food from our favorite Italian caterer, good cake (no carrot cake - no use pretending cake can be healthy, so Duncan Hines and I had a rendevous Saturday morning and the result was a 2-layer fudge marble cake with choc fudge frosting and colorful sprinkles), and a good time. Mom enjoyed her party.

Need to stop over to the SBD board and find the recipe for pumpkin pudding so I can whip that up for dessert this week. Dinner tonight is grilled salmon with this awesome dry rub that one of my friends gave me, steamed asparagus, and corn for DH. Will be settling in for the Patriots game vs Arizona Cardinals in a few minutes. Actually, I think the Pats are missing a few players. There's quite a game of dads and kids (all of them in a his and her favorite player shirts) going on out front, with the neighborhood Goldens cheering from the sidelines. The star is one of the 4-year-old daughters - I saw her take off down the street with the ball tucked under her arm a minute ago, stiff-arming her big brother on the way. Look out, Jerry Rice!

Have a good afternoon, all!

Evening All

I guess the I'm not feeling great must be contagious. Headache has been plaguing me since the return from Connecticut last night and I'm back to not sleeping at night so not sure what the cause was but I'm thankful it has eased up for the past hour or so. I did my usual Sunday morning chores and treated myself to a manicure and pedicure and just decided not to do much. As much as the house needed a good vaccuming and dusting just wasn't up to the task. So instead I did some laundry and in between loads I spent the afternoon engrossed in the book I was reading and actually finished it. I made some brownies for the family members that are around and since the weather was so fall like I put a roast beef in the oven with some garlic roasted red potatoes, fresh string beans with a mustard vinegrette and a big salad. I actually had to find a warm sweatshirt to wear for the after dinner walk with Otto.

My sister was truly surprised at her party yesterday. She was so overwhelmed by it all and was absolutely thrilled that all the sisters could be together. We get together so infrequently and one of her first requests was that we have a picture of all of us taken. She's not in great health and we all thought she was looking very frail yesterday. I'm really glad all of us were able to be there and it was great to see her kids and their kids. Her oldest is only 5 years younger than me and his oldest daughter just started college. It was a long day with all the travel involved and the ferry ride back and forth from Port Jefferson to Bridgeport was indeed a bumpy ride with the aftereffects of Ivan taking charge of the water. DH safely made it to Michigan although his flight was delayed almost 3 hours and younger DD made it safely to Massachusetts between the downpours we were experiencing.

All in all a nice weekend, hope yours was a good one and hope that all of you effected by Ivan are safe and sound.
