I'm sorry to hear about your dog. When I get upset, I shop. It sounds like when you get upset, you eat. There, there, dear.
I'm doing the Fat to Muscle diet by Victoria Zak, Cris Carlin and Peter Vash, M.D., if you're interested in doing it with me. After all the food list making, shopping, chopping, and prepping, there's only time to eat and sleep practically, ha ha ha! It's all healthy, and I feel STUFFED!
Here's an excerpt from the book for today's reading:
"Emergency Thermic Boosters
During the day, you may be cued to eat by an emotional
upset, a frustrating experience, too much stress, or
any number of trigger situations that could send you
to food.
At those times, when you reach for food, what do you
usually reach for? High-fat or high-sweet. A candy
bar is a boost, but it's a quick hit that drops you
just as quickly, and it's high in fat. A cheese snack
is a quick sense of comfort because it's high-fat, but
it also leaves you sluggish and non-thermic! These
cues are grabbers that can break your diet.
Next time you reach for a booster, switch your bad
habits for good ones and reach for foods that will
keep your thermic switch high.

Remember: When you reach for a booster or snack,
consider it one of your daily Hotplate servings and
account for it. If it's a small booster like a berry
bud, you don't have to count it. If it's thermic
pizza or stir-fry, count it."

I like dogs, too, even though we're not dog owners - we just live in the middle of a mob of them, mostly golden retrievers. They're my favorites, although DH has a preference for yorkies and West Highland white terriers. I wouldn't have issues with either of them, or with border collies (hi to Annie in SD), Australian shepherds, or shelties.

I run and do weight lifting (light free weights) with The Firm video tapes, plus Tony Little's abdominal workout. Like you, I'm home alone during the week, and my eating can get lazy. Much easier to reach for cookies than it is to slice up a peach with a touch of whipped cream or an apple with peanut butter. I finished up the last ice cream cone last night, so no more ice cream for me for a while, and today I turned my health back over to God. Doing it for my own vanity has never worked, probably because I don't rightly care what I look like to the rest of the world, LOL!

I missed your post about your dogs. What type are they? We have 2 Maltese and I really love them. They are a high maintance dog though. They don't shed and believe it or not they don't fart, they do burp. They think they are human. My kids tell me that I treat them better than the kids (all my children are grown). It's strange because I usually own big dogs but have always admired the Maltese breed.
